Okay but does YOUR liquor cabinet do this?

This client's ask during their reno + ADU addition: a hidden liquor cabinet. Our GC took that vision and ran with it β€” hit a button, and the whole thing slides right out of the wall, slow and smooth, lit up inside like its own little speakeasy. Hit it again and p**f, gone. Just a wall.

Bar cart who? This is the energy we're here for β€” turning a fun idea into a full moment. Give the client what they pictured, then make it even cooler.

Cedar update: 692 square feet, 2 beds, 2 baths.

This one's playing both sides β€” cozy family escape on the weekends you claim it, Airbnb moneymaker on the weekends you don't.

Zellige-look tile climbing the shower walls, marble floors underfoot. Small house, big main character energy.

Up next on our checklist, we are tackling the hearth install over the range and hanging the rest of the wall cabinets. Shelves will go up in the coffee bar area, cabinet hardware and lights will be installed. We are also getting the tower cabinet set up in the master bedroom and prepping for the tile backsplash.

We did hit a small bump in the road. The specialty kitchen window arrived damaged, so the replacement is pushed out a bit further. But we are working around it to keep things moving!

This Fourth of July is different. For as long as we can remember, this day meant gathering at Mom and Dad's place in Cheboygan β€” the flag flying high over the dock like it always did, the grill going, and Dad in his element as the best host anyone could ask for, making sure your drink was never empty.

He loved this country and cared deeply about what was happening in it and the world beyond. You could sit with him for hours talking about current events, and he'd have you laughing the whole time with his stories and jokes. He had a personality too big for any room, and a heart just as big.

Dad's love for this place β€” for Northern Michigan, for gathering people together, for building something that lasts β€” is a big part of why Northwood Tiny Homes exists today. This is our first Fourth without him, and we won't pretend it doesn't hurt. But we'll fly his flag, tell his stories, and be grateful for every one of those years we had with him.

We miss you, Dad. Happy Fourth.

Progress: Had to share the plaid mosaic floor tile against the deep burgundy!

The color drenched hallway and mudroom are setting the tone as well, with dark paneling, and brass antler picture lights. Love the cubbies with live edge bench built in πŸ™‚

More to come.

New Build Spotlight: Ellsworth

This one's a fun twist on our Hickory model. We customized the layout with an interior staircase, a conditioned garage space, and flipped the oversized deck to the opposite side of the building for a completely different feel.

The details:
2 bedroom, 1 bath
1,050 sq ft total
525 sq ft of living space above the garage

It's a great example of how a few thoughtful tweaks can transform a floor plan into something totally its own.

This master bathroom shower is coming together beautifully. The deep, glossy burgundy tile laid in a vertical stack gives the space a rich, dramatic feel, with dual niches built in for storage. With the plaid mosaic floor tile, this room will strike the perfect balance of light and dark β€” and it's all going to pop against the polished nickel plumbing fixtures.

In the living room, the built-ins are IN!

Finished Shell β€” Boyne, MI

This 600 sq ft, 2 bed/1 bath + loft shell is complete and ready for its next chapter. This one features clean modern lines, a slanted shed roof, Andersen windows throughout, and a covered front porch β€” all framed, sheathed, and weather-tight.

Why go with a shell instead of a turnkey unit? A shell gives you a fully built, structurally sound, weatherproof home at a fraction of the cost and timeline of a finished build β€” then puts the interior in your hands. That means:

* Lower upfront cost
* Full control over layout, materials, and finish level on your own timeline and budget
* Flexibility to DIY some or all of the interior, or bring in your own trades
* A faster path to move-in readiness on the structural side, without waiting on every finish decision before construction even starts

It's the best of both worlds: professional-grade construction where it matters most, and total creative freedom where you want it.

Grand Rapids is about to make your backyard way more interesting.

The city's working on new rules β€” expected to kick in next year β€” that would let you build a backyard home (an ADU) up to 1,000 sq ft. That's bigger than today's limits, with a lot less red tape, and enough room for a real one- or two-bedroom: rental income, a spot for the in-laws, a home office, or a place to downsize into while you rent out the main house.

This is exactly the stuff we love to build. Want to be ready the day those rules land? Now's a great time to start planning. Send us a message and we'll figure out what fits on your lot.

The full scoop: https://www.mlive.com/news/grand-rapids/2026/06/how-grand-rapids-is-making-it-easier-to-build-a-1000-square-foot-home-in-your-backyard.html

The proposed changes would increase maximum floor area to 1,000 square feet and remove the two-bedroom cap on accessory dwelling units.
