🌲 Roots of Rex Lumber | One Step at a Time

In December 1993, Timber Processing featured North Florida Lumber during a period of continued investment and modernization. With Rex Lumber serving as its marketing arm, the Bristol mill was an important part of the Rex story.

New technology and equipment were being added throughout the mill, including upgrades to the trimmer and optimization systems, expanded lumber storage and new lift trucks. Together, these improvements were helping increase production, improve efficiency and make better use of each log.

The operation was evolving beyond the mill as well. North Florida Woodlands and Apalachee Pole Company had become part of the family’s growing forest products operations.

It was another chapter in a story that had already been nearly 70 years in the making and one that was still moving forward.

One step at a time.

🌲 Roots of Rex Lumber | A New Mill. A Familiar Name.

When the Graceville mill was sold in 1981, a new chapter began.

The McRae family and management team headed south to Bristol, Florida, where they established North Florida Lumber and put decades of experience into building a new generation, high-yield mill.

As company president Finley McRae explained:

“We tried to build the most cost efficient, high production, high-yield mill we could.”

But amid all that change, one important piece of the past remained. Rex Lumber Co. was retained as the marketing arm, carrying the Rex name into a new era.

A new mill. A familiar name. A legacy moving forward.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸

We are incredibly grateful to live and work in a community that takes care of its own.

Over the weekend, a fire broke out at our mill. Thankfully, our training, preparation, and fire suppression systems worked as intended, helping keep everyone safe and the situation contained.

Our local fire departments and law enforcement immediately came to our aid, working together to make sure everyone and everything was safe and secure.

A huge thank you to Meeksville Volunteer Fire Department, South Montgomery County VFD , Troy Fire Department, and the law enforcement officers who responded for your quick response, professionalism, and willingness to always answer the call.

Our local first responders are an invaluable part of this community. We are incredibly thankful for the men and women who give their time, training, and service to protect their neighbors, local businesses, and our community every day.

We’re grateful to have you in our corner. ❤️
