Salt water, cold and heavy loads: the lubricant that stays put

Most marine lubricants don't fail from wear. They fail because salt water washes them away.

The coastal vessel Vlieland has sailed the length of Europe's coast for more than 20 years, from the warm Mediterranean to the ice-class waters of the Baltic and Bothnian Gulf. Its deck equipment takes a permanent battering from salt water, rain and wind.

Skipper and owner Roelof Rientjes switched the ship's anchor windlasses, steel cables, spindles, deck crane and door seals to Interflon lubricants built on MicPol® technology: Grease LS2, L**e EP, Grease aerosol and L**e TF.

The difference is adhesion. Instead of washing off, the lubricant stays bonded to the metal, roughly eight times longer than before. Re-greasing intervals that used to sit at two to three weeks have stretched out significantly, and sister ship Terschelling has since made the same switch.

From 32°F and 100% humidity to 140–149°F water, steam, washdown and heavy contamination.

At this Belgian pork processing plant, 45 overhead conveyors run in one linear sequence. When one chain stops, the lines after it stop too.

H1 tells you a lubricant is safe for incidental food contact. Not whether it will perform on a specific chain.

On one conveyor, a third-party PAO 150 food-grade lubricant was trialed in place of Interflon Food L**e G150. Same viscosity grade, same food-grade status. It dripped excessively, and Food L**e G150 was reinstated.

Across the plant, lubricant, application method and interval are now matched to each conveyor.

When tolerances are measured in microns, every unplanned stop counts.
At Euro-Mit Staal, steel coil is slit to tolerances as tight as one to two thousandths of a millimeter for transformer components.

Without Interflon's solution, the line would have stopped once a month for maintenance.

Grease belongs in the bearing, not on the housing, the floor or your gloves.

With a standard coupler, one hand holds the connection while the other works the grease gun. At an awkward angle, that is exactly where grease escapes. The Interflon G-Coupler locks onto the grease fitting, so both hands stay free to operate the grease gun.

How it works:
• Press the lever, push the coupler onto the fitting and release. It stays locked in place.
• Four hardened spring-steel jaws and a durable TPU seal keep the connection tight, even at extreme angles.

Textile machinery runs in some of the harshest lubrication environments in manufacturing.

Water exposure, extreme temperatures, unbalanced loads, and abrasive textile fly all attack conventional lubricants — nowhere more visibly than on the Tenter/Stenter oven chain. Chemical additives from treatment dip tanks dry hard on the chain, creating a grinding paste. Wet, conventional lubricant flashes off quickly, struggles to reach the pins and bushes where wear actually happens, and attracts abrasive fly that accelerates chain failure — often forcing full chain replacement every few years.

Interflon L**e HT was built for exactly this problem.

It's a dry, long-lasting, high-temperature lubricant that can be applied to both cold and hot parts — no waiting for machinery to cool, no production window lost to maintenance. A solvent-free version, L**e HT/SF, is available where solvent exposure is a concern.

Corrugated cardboard runs on heat, pressure, and paper dust — and that combination is hard on machinery.

At the corrugator, temperatures can reach up to 482°F. Downstream, bearings are exposed to dust, glue residue, and heat that cause conventional lubricants to break down, drip, and demand frequent re-greasing — often in hard-to-reach areas where maintenance work carries real safety risk.

Oil and grease are both lubricants, but they behave very differently once they're in a machine — and choosing the wrong one can mean more friction, faster wear, or lubricant that doesn't stay where it's needed.

The basic difference: oil is a liquid lubricant that flows freely and circulates continuously through a system. Grease is oil combined with a thickener, which holds it in a semi-solid state so it stays put on a surface or in a bearing rather than draining away.

That difference in behavior drives where each one is used:

- Oil suits applications with continuous circulation, high speeds, or a need for cooling and cleaning as the oil moves through the system — think gearboxes and hydraulic systems.

- Grease suits applications where the lubricant needs to stay in place — open or hard-to-reach bearings, vertical or intermittently moving parts, or equipment exposed to water, dust or contamination where a sealing lubricant film matters.
