Turpin Robotics

Turpin Robotics Turpin Robotics gives students learning opportunities in Robotics. We compete in competitions through FIRST.

Turpin Robotics was started in 2015 as a way to give 4H students at Turpin a way to learn about Robotics. We compete in FIRST leagues (find out more at firstinpires.org) in the First Lego League for grades 4-8, and the First Lego League Jr for grades K-3. The teams meet weekly during the school year to work on the current game, problem and to learn about robots and programming. To be on one of the

teams, any student in the Turpin area is eligible if they join 4H and attend at least half of the 4H community meetings. The team is also working to raise money to increase STEM learning opportunities for all students at Turpin Schools. Lego kits are now available for check out and eventually other robotics learning kits will available to check out in the class room to help students and teachers to this end. This program will allow all students at Turpin Public Schools to learn more about the exciting fields of engineering and robotics through these and other opportunities. Stay tuned for more information as we continue to grow. To help out as a volunteer or donate, please contact us for more information.

Two great things coming together! Green and Gold meeting LEGO! How we wish it fit our theme for this year’s competition. But we would be glad to put it together and show it off at our events this year if one of our many Turpinators fans wants to help us out and donate a set.

On a side note: this is also the first time in a while to see LEGO using pneumatics in a set again. Glad to see they didn’t retire those parts. We’ve never used the pneumatics kits because they were only available used until this kit came along.

Turpin Robotics would like to recognize Senior Gwynlyn Hannah for receiving the Embry-Riddle FIRST Scholarship.

From Embry Riddle: The purpose of the Embry-Riddle FIRST Scholarship is to allow FIRST and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University to recognize high school students who have displayed significant achievements in education and leadership during their high school career. The award will be up to $5,000 annually to select participants of FIRST Tech Challenge FTC and FIRST Robotics Competition FRC.

Gwyn has been a part of the Engineering Club as a member and officer for her high school career, and she has been an amazing example of what our engineering club students can become with intelligence, perseverance, and opportunity all coming together. She has consistently found challenges both through school and on her own to grow and develop new skills such as programming.

By competing with our FTC team (FIRST Tech Challenge), she was eligible for this scholarship and joins many previous THS students who have been able to benefit from Turpin Robotics with scholarships to go along with the challenge, fun, and skill building that comes with working on robots.
