Rely on the information provided by the manufacturer when it comes to setting amperage and avoiding excessive voltage in order to prevent worm tracking marks on the weld bead. Lower the voltage gradually until the tracks no longer appear.

Man developed a crude form of welding back in the Bronze Age around 3,500 B.C., but modern welding techniques began to appear in what century? If you guessed the 19th century, you're right.

In addition to occasional problems with open or shorted circuits in arc welders, especially older ones that have seen a lot of service hours, the frame may not be properly grounded and will deliver a shock when touched. If grounding will not correct the problem, replace the welder.

Protect yourself from electric shock with the best copper grounding clamps that you can find. When they are in constant contact with the work piece, they not only protect, they also make it easier to start an arc.

You probably already know welding is a precise skill often honed over a number of years. In 2012, there were about 357,400 welders, solderers, cutters, and brazers working across the U.S.
