If you have to spend time outside while smoke is in the air, these simple tips can help protect your lungs:

✅ Limit strenuous activities like running, yard work, or heavy lifting.
✅ Check your local Air Quality Index (AQI) before heading outdoors.
✅ Wear a properly fitted N95 respirator if you’ll be outside for extended periods.
✅ Keep windows and doors closed when smoke is heavy.
✅ Stay hydrated—smoke can dry and irritate your airways.
✅ If your eyes or throat are irritated, head indoors and rinse with clean water.
✅ Children, older adults, pregnant women, and anyone with asthma, COPD, or heart disease should minimize outdoor exposure whenever possible.

🔥 Wildfire Smoke Is in the Air—Let’s Keep Indoor Air Cleaner 🔥

While the fires surrounding our area are not currently threatening our homes or town, the smoke can still make our outdoor—and indoor—air unhealthy.

Here are a few ways to help protect your family:

🏠 Keep windows and doors closed when the air is smoky.
♻️ Set your HVAC fan to “Auto” rather than “On” so it isn’t constantly circulating air.
🧼 Check your furnace or air conditioner filter and replace it if it’s dirty.
💨 Use a properly sized, high-quality filter your system can safely handle.
🚫 Avoid burning candles, using fireplaces or doing anything indoors that creates additional smoke.
🏃 Limit strenuous outdoor activity when air quality is poor.
📱 Check the local Air Quality Index before spending extended time outside.

Children, older adults, pregnant women and people with asthma, heart disease or other lung conditions may be especially sensitive to wildfire smoke.
