As April comes to a close, we're celebrating sustainability in honor of Earth Day! Do you know what the numbers in the triangles represent on the bottom of your containers? Each plastic product has a designated Resin Identification Code or RIC, which identifies the type of plastic used to manufacture the product. In most cases, materials with #1, #2, and #5 RICs are widely accepted for curbside recycling. Always check with your local recycler before throwing it out! Growscape typically uses Polystyrene, or PS #6, which is not a curbside recyclable plastic. If you find your collection of polystyrene pots is getting too big, we have a list of recycling facilities around the U.S. that offers PS #6 recycling capabilities! Check it out here: https://hubs.la/Q03jh5z90

Of that 900 million metric tons, only about 9% of single-use plastics globally or 18 million metric tons are recovered and recycled back into plastic products again. HCxCHG is works every day to find new and innovative ways to incorporate sustainable practices into our products by following and exceeding the ever changing regulations on the use of plastics in our products!

What is the difference between PCR and PIR? PIR or Post-Industrial Recycled content is a byproduct of manufacturing material that has been used by an industrial process prior to being distributed to consumers . This material is offered to other manufacturers to find a purpose. In most cases, this material never makes it to the general public, but would still find its way into a landfill or incinerated.

🪴🌎 Did you know there's a difference between Ocean Plastic (OP) and Ocean-Bound Plastic (OBP)? 🌊 Over 100 metric tons of plastic stray from uncontrolled landfills and falls into the oceans. Now, what is the difference between the two? Ocean Plastic is plastic that has been pulled directly from the ocean. Ocean bound plastic is plastic has been recovered within 50 kilometers/31 miles away of a coastline or waterway, this waste is at a high risk of entering the ocean. All Ocean plastic and Ocean-Bound Plastic are considered PCR plastic and get certified through a 3rd party to ensure credibility. At HCxCHG we strive for greatness with our sustainability efforts and continue to raise our standards to comply with the changing regulations.

As Earth Day quickly approaches, we're sharing our favorite sustainability tips! At HCxCHG, we often mention PCR, but do you know what it means? PCR stands for Post-Consumer Recycled, which refers to materials that have been given a second life after their intended use. PCR consists of recycled materials such as aluminum, cardboard, paper, and plastic bottles. By incorporating an average of 10% PCR in our manufacturing processes, HCxCHG is committed to making it easier for you to contribute to a healthier planet. Imagine the joy of knowing that every product you choose helps reduce waste and supports a more sustainable future.
