When did you last turn the valve behind your toilet? 🚽🔧

For most homes the answer is “never.” That little valve can sit untouched for 20 to 40 years. Then the day you really need it, it’s rusted shut, it won’t turn, or it starts to drip.

Here’s what to know before that happens:

⚠️ Don’t force it. A stuck valve can snap and turn a small problem into a flood. If it won’t turn with normal hand pressure, stop and use your home’s main shut-off.
💧 A slow drip isn’t harmless. It can quietly rot your subfloor for months before you notice.
🔄 Exercise your valves. Open and close them once or twice a year so they don’t seize up.
⏱️ Upgrade to a quarter-turn valve. It shuts off in about one second, with no wrestling a rusty handle.
🔗 Replace supply lines about every 10 years. Braided stainless lines are the safer choice.

POV: That old steam pipe finally gave up. 🔧🔥

This one was tough. Decades of rust had eaten the pipe so badly that it was falling apart in our hands, and the fittings were basically fused in place. Our team opened up the wall, worked through it piece by piece, and put in a new section with fresh fittings, ready for heating season.
