Some cooling tips courtesy of R&T Heating and Air.
AC 101
1. Wash out the outdoor unit coil regularly with a water hose. This is how the A/C gets rid of the heat.
2. Change filters monthly
3. Make sure NOTHING is in FRONT or ON TOP of the supply vents. Cold air falls so the air needs to be allowed to get up as high as possible.
4. Make sure curtains are not over vents
5. Make sure sure ALL ROOM DOORS are open. The air has to be able to get back to the return.
6. DO NOT CLOSE ANY VENTS. The unit is designed for all vents to be open
7. Close ALL blinds. Sunlight is a killer for cooling.
8. If you want to check and see if its cooling properly, take a thermometer and put it in a supply vent. About 5 minutes later check the reading. Then do the same at the return grill. The difference in these 2 temperatures should be 16-20 degrees. If you have less there is a problem.
These temps and humidity are brutal. All that I mention are important!!!!
My unit is 3 years old, it maintains 71 degrees day and night. Even cycles off during the day.
Another thing insulation. Some houses have none and others are well insulated. This makes a huge difference.
Also ceiling height makes a difference. These houses with high ceilings will be harder to cool.
Mobile homes will not maintain temp during this time. They are just not built for these conditions.
I hope this helps someone!!!!
