On this weeks BTC team recaps we take a look at our logistics and outreach teams! This year we led sustainability seminars, updated our merchandise, created a new BTC banner, held club photoshoots, updated our social media accounts, and much more. Even after setbacks due to the pandemic, our dedicated team reached new heights this year such as the logistics behind recycling our Biodiesel waste with outside organizations for next year as well as an all new energy week. We look forward to what is bound to be a huge leap for our club in the coming months!

This year, BTC made great progress toward our ultimate goal of fueling campus vehicles with our biodiesel. Our Scale-Up and Design teams successfully produced significant quantities of biodiesel and have successfully used it in test vehicles for several thousand miles. All members of BTC played a critical part in achieving this milestone, especially considering that the pandemic hindered our club’s progress as we weren’t able to produce biodiesel at our facility at the Richmond Field Station. Next school year, we have an ambitious outlook as we plan to scale our production to a level that will make it feasible to fuel the diesel vehicles on campus with our renewable biodiesel.

A big step for our club was taken May 4th when we put our Biodiesel into a car! S/O to our many members new and old, some of which have been working for this day for 4 years to make this possible! We continue to get closer to putting our Biodiesel made from used cooking oil into campus vehicles to make our campus more sustainable.

The membership of the Biofuels Technology Club has been keeping up with the news. We are horrified by the police brutality and oppression we see, and we want to express our solidarity with the Black community and our desire for justice. We hope everyone will take initiative to fight racism in their community, and have a few suggestions on how to do so. We recommend sending an automatic email to your legislator demanding Criminal Justice Reform and equitable COVID recovery programs, using the link below. We also encourage everyone to educate themselves on the issues through reading this New Yorker article and watching the documentary 13th, available for free on YouTube.
