🚨 AFTER HOURS EMERGENCY – RTU HIT 🚨 We received an after-hours dispatch for a non-functional unit, but upon arrival, it became clear that this was no ordinary service call. The RTU had been targeted in an attempted copper theft, with panels tampered with, wiring exposed, and the refrigeration circuit compromised, rendering the system inoperable. This situation highlights the malicious damage that can occur. A thorough diagnostic assessment was conducted, evaluating electrical integrity, checking the remaining low voltage circuit, inspecting the contactor, transformer, and safeties, as well as examining refrigerant lines for damage and leaks. Unfortunately, this incident reflects a growing trend of copper theft resulting in extensive damage and system failure. When a unit's copper components are compromised, simply replacing them is insufficient; contamination risks, open systems, and potential major component failure must also be addressed. The unit was secured as thoroughly as possible, and a plan for repair and system recovery was outlined.
