"BP puts $220M toward U.S. solar projects

Oil major BP is investing $220 million in U.S. solar projects as it seeks to expand its renewables portfolio, the company announced on Tuesday.

The projects it purchased will be spread across 12 states, with much of it going to power Texas and the Midwest.

It will amount to 9 gigawatts worth of energy — enough to power about 1.7 million homes"

FAQ: Do Solar Panels Power Your Home?

Answer: Yes, and No. By going solar, you are purchasing the equipment that will produce the amount of energy your home uses in a year. The energy your panels produce supplement the local grid to help power the community. This is why some months you get a bill credit from your provider (Picture). Unless you get a battery your home will not be powered directly by the solar panels. This means, without a battery or generator power outages will still affect you.

Long story short, you do not need a battery to go solar. The idea of solar is simply to redirect your monthly electric budget back into the home via home equity.

What Is The Solar Tax Credit?

-The Investment Tax Credit (ITC) can be thought of as an IRS store credit. It is a dollar-for-dollar credit in your income taxes that you would otherwise pay to the federal government.

-The Solar Tax Credit is currently at 26% of the total cost of your solar system. After 2022 it begins to tier down until it is completely gone in 2025.

-Example:
Solar System Cost: $50,000
Tax Credit: ($50,000 x 0.26)=$13,000
