Landmark Award | East-West Regional Trail

We’re honored to receive this recognition for the 28-mile East-West Regional Trail system in Douglas County. First envisioned by citizens in 1986, the trail now connects communities, open spaces, and regional trail networks across eight jurisdictions. Carefully planned to preserve the natural landscape while providing public access, the trail demonstrates the enduring value of thoughtful design, environmental stewardship, and long-term collaboration.

Our partners in this project include: Douglas County, Town of Parker, City of Lone Tree, Highlands Ranch Metro District, Muller Engineering, ERO Resources, ECI Site Construction Management, Naranjo Civil Constructors.

Honor Award | Goldsmith Gulch at Caley Gardens

What was once a drainage corridor is now a landscape that restores natural systems and invites discovery. Designed for the City of Greenwood Village, Goldsmith Gulch at Caley Gardens integrates channel realignment, stream restoration, trail improvements, and nature-based play into a beautiful and functional public landscape. A wetland walk, artistic landforms, and braided gardens invite visitors to explore and better understand the natural environment, demonstrating how thoughtful design can bring together ecological restoration, stormwater management, and community benefit.

This award is shared with: City of Greenwood Village, Muller Engineering, RESPEC, GROUND Engineering, ERO Resources, American Civil Constructors, Double R Excavating.

Great progress is being made on our Happy Canyon Creek restoration project in RidgeGate in the City of Lone Tree. Phases 2–4 are currently under construction, and planting is well underway. Wetland plugs, riparian and upland trees and shrubs, native grasses, and forbs are helping restore biodiversity, stabilize streambanks, and create habitat throughout the corridor.

The sculpted concrete drop structures are a great example of collaboration between designers, engineers, and contractors – Mile High Flood District, Merrick, ERO Resources, and CEI. The team’s goal was to mimic the claystone bedrock naturally found along this reach of the creek. Architerra worked with Merrick to reduce the amount of exposed concrete and develop forms that feel integrated with the surrounding landscape. We also collaborated with the team at CEI to create a texture that closely replicates the appearance of in-place claystone.

The result is a series of drop structures that feel contextual to the site, support natural stream processes, and allow passage for aquatic invertebrates and other wildlife. It’s a testament to what can be achieved through collaboration, craftsmanship, and attention to detail.

We are excited to welcome Ellie Lamphier as our Summer Intern! Ellie is from Parker, Colorado, and is entering her senior year at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, where she is pursuing a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture with a minor in Urban Studies. Throughout her academic career, Ellie has demonstrated strong leadership and involvement on campus. She is an active member of the ASLA Minnesota Student Chapter and Women in Landscape Architecture (WxLA), and she has served as a teaching assistant, university security monitor, and residential advisor. Ellie is passionate about sustainable design and is committed to considering environmental impacts in every design decision—a value she plans to carry with her throughout her professional career. Outside of academics and work, Ellie enjoys singing in her college a ca****la group, expanding her knowledge of plants, gardening, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. We are thrilled to have Ellie on our team this summer and look forward to the creativity, enthusiasm, and fresh perspective she will bring.

Engaging with communities is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do. The insights we gain from residents and stakeholders help shape our design process and ensure that future improvements reflect the needs, priorities, and character of the community. We had a great turnout at Foothills Park & Recreation District community engagement event last Saturday as we begin developing a vision for the future of Weaver Hollow Park. We’re excited to be leading the design effort for this well-loved neighborhood park and look forward to continuing the conversation as the project moves forward.
