🛠️ Painter Tool Tuesday: When Does a Paint Sprayer Make Sense?

A paint sprayer can be an incredibly useful tool—but it isn't always the right tool for every job.

Spraying can be a great option when:
✔️ A smooth, even finish is important
✔️ Painting cabinets or doors
✔️ Covering large surfaces efficiently
✔️ Working on certain commercial projects
✔️ Painting surfaces with details or textures that can be difficult to roll

But spraying also requires careful preparation. Surrounding surfaces need to be properly protected, and the painter needs to understand how to control the spray, coverage, and application.

Depending on the project, brushing, rolling, spraying—or a combination of all three may produce the best result.

At BFB Painting, we choose the application method based on the surface, the project, and the finish we're trying to achieve.

🎨 The right tool isn't necessarily the fastest tool. It's the one that helps achieve the right finish.

🎃 It may be Halloween, but there’s nothing scary about this transformation!

We’re excited to share the updated exterior of this mall. The fresh black finish gives the building a clean, modern look while adding a bold contrast that makes a big impact.

A thoughtful color update can go a long way in refreshing a commercial property and creating a more polished appearance.

🛠️ Painter Tool Education: The Extension Pole

Ever wonder how painters reach those high walls and ceilings without constantly moving a ladder?

An extension pole can make a big difference.

When paired with the right roller, an extension pole allows painters to reach higher areas while keeping both feet safely on the ground when conditions allow. It can also help reduce unnecessary ladder movement and make it easier to maintain a consistent rolling technique across larger surfaces.

The right tool can help with:
✔️ Reaching high walls and ceilings
✔️ Covering larger areas more efficiently
✔️ Maintaining a consistent application
✔️ Reducing unnecessary ladder movement

Of course, an extension pole isn't the solution for every situation. Choosing the right equipment for the height, surface, and project is an important part of working safely and efficiently.

The right tool can make the work more efficient and the finish more consistent.

🛠️ Painter Tool Tuesday: Painter’s Tape

Painter’s tape might seem like a simple tool, but when it’s used correctly, it can make a big difference in the finished product.

Professional painters use tape to help:
✔️ Create clean, crisp lines
✔️ Protect trim, fixtures, and other surfaces
✔️ Keep paint where it belongs
✔️ Make detailed work more efficient

But the tape itself isn’t what creates a great line. Proper application matters. The surface needs to be clean, the tape needs to be applied carefully, and the edges should be pressed down securely.

And depending on the surface and project, an experienced painter may choose to cut in by hand rather than use tape.

At BFB Painting, we use the method that makes the most sense for the surface and the project. Good tools help—but good technique makes the difference. 🎨

🛠️ Painter Tool Education: Drop Cloths & Floor Protection

Before the first drop of paint goes on the wall, there’s an important step that happens first: protecting the space.

Professional painters take time to protect flooring, countertops, furniture, fixtures, and other surfaces before work begins. Drop cloths, plastic, paper, and other protective materials help prevent unwanted paint splatters and keep the work area clean.

But protection is about more than just preventing a mess. Taking the time to properly prepare and protect a space shows attention to detail.

At BFB Painting, we believe the finished product matters—but so does how we treat your home or business while we're working in it.

Ever wondered why paint rollers come in different thicknesses?

That thickness is called the roller nap—the length of the fibers on the roller cover. Choosing the right nap helps determine how the paint is applied and how the finished surface looks.

As a general guide:

🟢 Shorter nap → smoother surfaces
Think smooth drywall, doors, and other relatively flat surfaces.

🟡 Medium nap → lightly textured surfaces
A versatile choice for many interior walls.

🔵 Longer nap → textured or rough surfaces
The longer fibers help work paint into the texture and uneven areas.

Using the wrong roller nap can affect coverage, texture, and the overall finish.

At BFB Painting, we consider the surface we're painting when choosing the right tools and application method.

The right roller can make a difference in the finished product. 🎨

Painter Tool Education: Paint Edger vs. Painter’s Brush

Ever wondered why professional painters often reach for a quality brush instead of a paint edger?

While paint edgers can seem like a quick way to create clean lines, a good brush gives a painter much more control and precision—especially around trim, corners, doors, windows, and other detailed areas.

A quality brush allows you to:
✔️ Control how much paint is applied
✔️ Work carefully along edges and corners
✔️ Reach detailed or uneven areas
✔️ Create a more consistent finish
✔️ Adjust your technique to the surface you’re painting

The right tool can make a big difference, but knowing how to use it properly matters just as much.

At BFB Painting, we use the tools and techniques that best fit each project. Sometimes that's a roller, sometimes a sprayer, and sometimes a good old-fashioned brush. 🎨

It’s not always about having the most tools—it’s about knowing which tool is right for the job.

Painter Tip Tuesday

Primer isn't just another coat of paint.

Primer can help seal surfaces, improve adhesion, cover certain stains, and create a more uniform surface for your finish coat.

It isn't necessary for every project, but knowing when and where to use primer can make a big difference in the finished result.
