Our new work examined whether digestive enzymes help older adults get more out of their meals. Particularly, our new study found that a multi-enzyme supplement did speed up the delivery of muscle-building amino acids (like leucine), but the results varied from person to person. Our results suggest that body composition and current diet may play a role in whether these supplements work for you (R.E., it is not a "one size fits all" solution).

Nice job MMax Deutzet al!

Recent work by our group showing that not all animal protein foods are created equal for the post-exercise stimulation of the muscle-building response. Particularly, eating a high fat ground meat matrix limited the rise in myofibrillar protein synthesis during recovery from weight lifting, likely because of a reduced leucine trigger as opposed to an acute lipid-induced anabolic resistance. More work needed in this area, but this is always a fun area of study for us. Great work by Zan!
