East-Central Iowa Rural Electric Cooperative

East-Central Iowa Rural Electric Cooperative East-Central Iowa REC is an electric cooperative owned by the member-consumers we serve. We are a business more interested in service than in making money.

By joining an electric cooperative, you’re joining a business enterprise that is owned jointly and controlled equally by those who use it. We’re excited to be the cooperative serving your electric needs! ECI REC is a Touchstone Energy Cooperative®, and is strengthened by a national alliance of local, consumer-owned electric cooperatives, consisting of over 700 cooperatives serving more than 30.5 m

illion member-owners in 47 states. ECI REC has 2,280 miles of electric lines and employs nearly 33 people. We serve 8,700 member-accounts in 11 counties: Benton, Black Hawk, Bremer, Buchanan, Clayton, Delaware, Fayette, Iowa, Linn, and Tama.

September is National Preparedness Month, a great reminder to take a few simple steps to keep you and your loved ones safe in an emergency.

• Make a plan. Talk with your family about where you will go and how you will stay in touch during an emergency.

• Build an emergency supply kit. Gather supplies like water, non-perishable food, flashlights, batteries, medications and first-aid supplies.

• Stay informed. Sign up for local weather alerts and other important updates. You can also receive timely updates from us.

Are you prepared for severe storms?

ECI encourages members to review a few storm safety basics. Be prepared by building an emergency kit, stay safe with proper use of portable generators and charge phones and other essential devices.

When severe storms roll our way, you can rest easy knowing we’re monitoring conditions and ready to respond to any outage. We encourage you to be prepared, too.

One of the best ways to protect yourself from online scams is by using strong passwords.

While many people focus on complexity, adding symbols, numbers and capital letters, password length is equally important. A longer password or passphrase is harder for cybercriminals to crack. Create memorable phrases made up of several unrelated words, and avoid using personal information like birthdays or pet names.

Use a unique password for each account and enable multi-factor authentication when possible.
