JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Diesel Overhaul Mechanic
DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Garage/Transportation
REPORTS TO: Garage Supervisor
SUPERVISES: No one
POSITION DESCRIPTION: Responsible for preventive maintenance,
mechanical repairs, and complete overhaul of diesel engines on all Company vehicles as needed.
ESSENTIAL/PRIMARY JOB DUTIES:
1. Performs preventive maintenance duties on all Company vehicles including changing oil, checking tires, lubrication, replacing filters, visual inspection, etc. on a specified time basis.
2. Completes preventive maintenance worksheet on each vehicle to notify
Garage Supervisor of any problems.
3. Performs repairs from work orders as approved by Garage Supervisor.
4. Requests necessary parts from Garage Storeroom Clerk.
5. Keeps records on the amount of time spent on each project.
6. Maintains inventory control by submitting computer tags from parts to Garage Supervisor.
7. Performs annual inspections and completes inspection report on each vehicle.
8. Test drives vehicles to determine if problem has been corrected.
9. Responsible for welding when needed.
10.Responsible for performing major diagnostics and repairs on diesel engines including complete overhauling and inframing.
11.Responsible for being present and on time for work each day.
OCCASIONAL/MARGINAL DUTIES:
1. Picks up parts from vendors as needed.
2. Performs any and all additional duties as required by management.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: *Completion of basic course in
mechanics or one year of experience.
*Ability to read and write.
MANUAL/PHYSICAL SKILLS: *Ability to drive commercial vehicle.
*Must be willing and able to attend
refresher training courses.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: *Good hearing and vision skills
required.
*Good verbal and written skills
necessary.
HOURS OF WORK: *40 hours per week with additional overtime as necessary.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: *Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 50 - 75 pounds.
*Must be able to assume awkward
positions.
*Substantial standing required.
*Ability to stoop, bend, pull,
push, and climb.
