While we are not school nutrition professionals, we are advocates of school nutrition professionals and support Oregon School Nutrition Association and Washington School Nutrition Association.
Being an active member of these associations and attending annual conferences has allowed us to better understand the challenges school nutrition professionals face, the crazy amount of hats they wear, and the moving barriers that they consistently have to cross (and do!) in order to feed our students.
It is imperative that the SNA and state chapters have support and help in educating communities, parents, etc on how feeding students in k-12 works (the numbers, the costs, the guidelines) and enlist more people to stand behind efforts in getting school nutrition directors more realistic guidelines to work within.
Thank you to all school nutrition professionals for the work, the heart and the passion you put into making sure students have breakfast, lunch, afterschool snacks, and lunch avail during summer.
We see you!
If you’re a school nutrition professional, you know this. You’ve felt it in every aspect of your job.
98% of school nutrition directors say food costs are their biggest challenge right now.
You’ve been showing up for your students all year, regardless of what it costs you. It’s time Congress showed up, too.
