🍂🔥 Turned Your Furnace On and Thought… “WHAT is that smell?!”

If you're firing up the heat for the first time this season, you might notice a smell you haven't smelled since last winter.

The good news? Some furnace smells can be completely normal. Others definitely shouldn't be ignored.

👃 Dusty or slightly burning smell: Dust can collect on your heating system while it sits unused during the summer. A mild dusty smell during the first startup may disappear fairly quickly.

⚠️ Electrical or burning plastic smell: Shut the system down and have it checked.

🚨 Strong gas or rotten egg smell: Don't ignore it. Leave the area and contact your gas utility/emergency services from a safe location.

🌫️ Persistent musty smell: Moisture, your filter, ductwork, or another HVAC issue may need attention.

The biggest thing to remember? A smell that doesn't go away, gets stronger, or just doesn't seem right deserves attention.

This is also a great time to schedule furnace maintenance BEFORE your heating system starts working overtime during a Mid-Michigan winter.

We put together a full guide explaining common furnace smells, what's normal, and when it's time to call.

💧 Wait... Why Is There WATER Coming From My A/C?! 😳

Believe it or not, your air conditioner actually produces water every day it's cooling and dehumidifying your home. Normally, that moisture collects in a drain pan and travels safely away through the condensate drain line.

So, some condensation? Normal.

A puddle around your indoor A/C equipment? Not so normal.

If you notice your AC leaking water, it could be caused by:

💧 A clogged condensate drain
❄️ A frozen evaporator coil
🌬️ Restricted airflow or a dirty filter
🔧 A damaged drain pan
⚙️ A condensate pump problem

Don't just wipe up the water and forget about it! The puddle may be the first sign of a bigger A/C issue, and catching it early can help prevent water damage and additional HVAC repairs.

We broke down where A/C water comes from, where it's supposed to go, and when a leak means it's time to call in our newest blog.

⚡ Electric Bill Looking a Little SCARY?
Your HVAC Might Be Trying to Tell You Something!👀

Summer electric bills are naturally higher when your A/C is running more, but if your bill suddenly jumps or seems much higher than it should be, your HVAC system could be part of the problem.

A few common culprits:

🌬️ Dirty air filter: Restricted airflow makes your A/C work harder and run longer.

❄️ Refrigerant issues: If your system isn't cooling properly, it may run constantly trying to reach the temperature on your thermostat.

⏳ Aging equipment: Older A/C systems can lose efficiency over time and use more energy to keep your home comfortable.

🔧 Lack of maintenance: Dirty coils, worn components, and other small issues can make your system work harder than necessary.

Before you blame the electric company entirely, pay attention to what your A/C is doing. Is it running ALL day? Struggling to reach the thermostat setting? Not cooling like it used to? Those are signs it's worth having it checked.

A little HVAC maintenance now could uncover an issue before it turns into a bigger repair or complete A/C breakdown.

📞 Call Three T's Plumbing, Heating & Cooling at (989) 780-2963 to schedule your A/C service or maintenance.

Let's make sure the only thing working overtime this summer isn't your air conditioner. 😅

🥵 5 Signs Your Air Conditioner Might Be About to Quit

Your air conditioner usually gives you a few warning signs before it completely calls it quits. The trick is catching them BEFORE you're sitting in an 85° house wondering what happened. 😅

Keep an eye (and ear!) out for these 5 signs:

❄️ Warm air: Your A/C is running, but the air coming from the vents isn't actually cold.

🔊 Strange noises: Grinding, banging, squealing, or other new sounds shouldn't be ignored.

⏰ Constant running: Your air conditioner seems like it NEVER shuts off but still can't get the house comfortable.

⚡ Higher electric bills: A sudden increase in your summer electric bill could mean your system is working harder than it should.

🌬️ Weak airflow: Cool air may be coming from the vents, but there's barely enough airflow to cool the room.

Sometimes these problems can be corrected with air conditioner maintenance or repair before they turn into a complete breakdown. Catching an issue early can also help prevent additional damage to your system.

Noticing one or more of these signs?

📞 Call Three T's Plumbing, Heating & Cooling at (989) 780-2963 to schedule your A/C service or maintenance.

Don't wait for your air conditioner to completely quit on the hottest day of the year!

🥵 Is your upstairs always hotter than the rest of the house?

You're not imagining it, and it doesn't always mean your A/C is broken.

A few common reasons your second floor stays warmer include:
❄️ Dirty air filters that restrict airflow
🌬️ Closed or blocked supply vents
🏠 Poor airflow throughout the home
📏 An undersized HVAC system
🔧 Leaky or poorly designed ductwork

During the hottest days of summer, heat naturally rises, making your upstairs the hardest area to keep cool. While some temperature difference is normal, large hot spots can be a sign that your HVAC system isn't operating as efficiently as it should.

Before you crank the thermostat even lower, try these quick tips:
✔ Replace your air filter if it's dirty.
✔ Make sure all vents are open and not blocked by furniture.
✔ Keep ceiling fans running counterclockwise to push cool air down.
✔ Keep interior doors open to improve airflow.

If you're still struggling to stay comfortable, it may be time to have your system inspected. Sometimes a simple repair or airflow adjustment can make a big difference.

🥵 The heat is on, Mid-Michigan! ☀️

When temperatures climb into the upper 80s and 90s, your air conditioner is working its hardest. The good news? A few simple habits can help keep your home more comfortable while lowering the strain on your A/C and helping reduce your energy bill.

In this video, we're sharing a few easy tips to help you stay cool:
✅ Close blinds and curtains during the hottest part of the day.
✅ Use a smart thermostat to pre-cool your home overnight.
✅ Use ceiling fans to circulate cool air and improve comfort.
✅ Keep your outdoor A/C unit free of grass, weeds, and debris.
✅ Replace dirty air filters to improve airflow and efficiency.

💡 Remember, even a perfectly functioning air conditioner has its limits. Most systems are designed to cool your home about 15 - 20 degrees below the outdoor temperature. During extreme heat, your A/C may run longer than usual, and that's completely normal.

If your system isn't blowing cold air, can't keep up with the heat, or is making unusual noises, don't wait for it to quit completely.

📞 Call Three T's Plumbing, Heating & Cooling at (989) 780-2963. Our experienced technicians are ready to help keep your family cool all summer long.

Stay cool, stay safe, and beat the heat! 😎

🥵 Mid-Michigan is heating up this week! With temperatures climbing into 90s and even real feel temperatures in the 100s, your air conditioner is about to get a serious workout.

Here are a few simple ways to help keep your home cooler and reduce the strain on your A/C:

✅ Keep blinds and curtains closed during the hottest part of the day, especially on south- and west-facing windows.
✅ Replace your air filter if it's dirty to improve airflow and efficiency.
✅ Avoid using your oven during the afternoon. Grilling or using small appliances can help keep indoor temperatures down.
✅ Turn on ceiling fans to help circulate cool air. (Remember, fans cool people, not rooms!)
✅ Seal gaps around doors and windows to keep hot air outside where it belongs.

💡 Did you know? Even a perfectly working air conditioner has its limits. Most residential A/C systems are designed to cool your home about 15–20 degrees below the outdoor temperature. So if it's 95° outside, your system may naturally maintain an indoor temperature around 75–80°. That doesn't always mean your A/C isn't working—it may simply be operating exactly as it was designed.

If your home still won't cool, your A/C is blowing warm air, running constantly, or making unusual noises, don't ignore the warning signs. A small issue can quickly become a major repair during a heat wave.

📞 Call Three T's Plumbing, Heating & Cooling today at (989) 780-2963 for expert A/C repair, maintenance, or replacement. We'll help keep your family comfortable all summer long!
