And this is what happens when a cylinder goes lean!!! 6.2 Hellcat, that had a remote tune on it, was living way too close to the ragged edge. All too often when it's this bad it not only torches the piston but also takes the cylinder wall with it! That's exactly what happened here and now the block needs a sleeve. Be very careful who you trust with tuning your car, especially a remote guy, they all claim to be the best but when s**t like this happens you got ZERO RECOURSE AND A HEFTY BILL TO PAY!!!!!!

No old Black and Decker bench grinder to clean valves!!!!! Real professional equipment here at VAMI!!!!! Not only does it clean the valves, springs, retainers, etc. it also acts as a stress reliever on those parts. Deburring valve stems and polishing are benefits as well!

Today we learned that one of our longtime customers passed away back on August 26. Gerry Gaida was a great man, veteran and former LEO. Gerry would just stop by to shoot the s**t and bust our balls, always left a smile on our faces. He will truly be missed! We'll see you again my friend! Time waits for no one.

This week we are building an old school 396 for a returning customer. He had gathered up some parts and brought us a basket case. His block is 1966 block. 6623 factory steel crank. Factory “polished” rods. The big trick in 1980. His heads are closed chamber rectangular port heads. Trw forged pistons that were wrapped in news paper from 1983. The camshaft is a crower solid flat tappet from 1985. Specs on it are [email protected] 107 lobe center .630-.595 lift. Right now his block is completely machined. I suspected we would have a valve to piston issue with a cam that big. We did. He had .005 V to p clearance. So here’s how you fix that. Fly cut .100 deep int pocket. The customer really wanted to use this cam so we made it happen. Soon this will be together and on the dyno. Also he found an old weiand strip dominator.

408 mopar tried to break 500. 494hp@5200. 530tq@4200.

I have numbers in the 408 Mopar. 494hp@5200 530tq&4200. This is going in 1996 full-size truck with a manual. The engine specs are 190 Cnc trick flow heads with Harland sharp shaft rockers, retro fit Hyd roller cam 228/232 108 lobe center .555/.549 lift. Pump gas compression. The customer will be running a edelbrock pro flow efi system. This engine has been in the line up of builds for awhile but we eventually got it all together. The customer was patient and plus the truck wasn’t ready yet.There were also a few set backs with parts since this was a magnum block with a LA top end.
