We here at Daniels have started to see a new disturbing trend in Air conditioning as of late. Air Conditioners are being brazed together with plumbing solder or have plumbing press fittings used (ie - Shark Bites). Why is that scary? Glad you ask! First off, the solder and refrigerant don't play nice together. It can create an acidic blend inside your system.
Also refrigerant's normal operating pressure is any where from 250 to 400 pounds of pressure on a typical day. Solder and shark bite fittings can only hold about 200 lbs of pressure at most.
Last, plumbing solder doesn't use excessively high temps to melt like the material we used for brazing with an oxy acetylation Torch. If for some reason the plumbing solder were to hold and there was a house fire, the house fire would melt the plumbing solder and release all the refrigerant into your home which could be disastrous.
Here at Daniels, we pride our self on quality and doing the job right. So next time you have that issue with your a/c system, give us a call! (435)789-6918
