When Plaster in older homes have a leak, reconstruction is different. Before wallboard, Steel Lath was covered by a stucco style cement, plaster and paint on ceilings. Since stucco isn't common, Sheetrock is used and skim coated before modern plaster is used to save time and money. Since I went from demolition to completion, I believe these results now qualify me as a Master of Plaster Disaster. May I cut in? This fireplace started off white as were the chair rails and floor moldings. The walls were a different color too. Since brickwork doesn't take kindly to paint splatters, you need someone careful to do the job right.
