The best lessons about the natural world don't happen in a classroom — they happen in places like Patagonia.

The Mission Patagonia program brings together educators, scientists and environmental communicators for ten days of exploration, learning and connection in southern Chile. Upon returning home, participants are equipped with perspectives, tools and experiences to help drive impact in their own communities.

Behind every discovery is the work that keeps National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) telescopes standing strong.

The National Science Foundation (NSF)'s Green Bank Telescope (GBT) is undergoing a multiphase repainting project using a three-layer coating system of zinc, epoxy and urethane — the same kind of protection used on long-span steel bridges and other critical national infrastructure.

From supporting missions like Artemis II to helping scientists unlock cosmic mysteries, the future of the GBT depends on the care and maintenance that keep it operating for generations to come. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4wwwxkU

Meet the 2026 Jansky Fellows! The National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) Jansky Fellowship Program supports outstanding early-career scientists and engineers in conducting independent research related to radio astronomy.

Jacob Turner will improve ways to study pulsars — the fast-spinning remains of dead stars. Ryan Boyden will study how planets form around young stars and how their surroundings influence that process. And, Alexander (Sasha) Plavin will investigate how giant black holes create powerful jets and accelerate particles across the universe.
