Over three evenings last week, members gathered for dinner and discussion as CEO and General Manager Jim Mangum shared updates on the cooperative for our Member Advisory Commitee (MAC) meetings.

MAC meetings are designed to keep our members informed and involved - giving an opportunity for attendees to ask questions directly to Wake Electric’s leadership team, creating an open conversation about the cooperative and its future.

Our next MAC meetings will be held in February. If you’ve ever wondered about the inner workings of Wake Electric, this is the perfect opportunity to gain valuable insights and connect with the people leading your cooperative.

When one cooperative needs a helping hand, others are there to answer the call. 💚

On Saturday, six Wake Electric linemen traveled to Alabama to assist Wiregrass Electric Cooperative with power restoration efforts following Hurricane Isaias.

Electric cooperatives are connected through statewide and national mutual aid networks, sharing crews and resources to help restore power when storms strike. We're proud of our linemen for putting the cooperative spirit into action and helping our fellow co-ops when they need it most.

This past Saturday, we welcomed some of Wake Electric’s newest members to our Youngsville facility for a morning built around one simple idea: getting to know your co-op. 💚

Members met the people behind their electric service, explored the equipment our crews use every day, watched lineworker demonstrations and learned more about the programs, rates and services available to them. There was also coffee, kids’ activities, bill credit drawings and, of course, plenty of pumpkins to take home.

As Wake Electric continues to grow, opportunities like this help keep the personal connection at the heart of the cooperative difference.

✈️ High schoolers: what could one week in Washington, D.C., lead to?

Past participants have called Youth Tour “life changing” — and Wake Electric is looking for two local high school juniors ready to experience it for themselves.

Spend an all-expenses-paid week in Washington, D.C., meet students from across the country, explore historic landmarks, learn about electric cooperatives and government and connect with congressional leaders.

And the opportunity doesn’t end when the trip does. Each of Wake Electric’s Youth Tour delegates receives a $1,000 college scholarship and becomes eligible for additional scholarship opportunities.

🎙️ It’s International Podcast Day — so it's a great time to catch up on The Co-op Current.

Our latest episode looks back at Wake Electric’s earliest days through the memories of Philip Lee, whose father, Ira “Shorty” Lee, was one of the co-op’s first linemen.

Philip shares stories of his father helping bring electricity to rural families for the first time in the 1940s, what it was like growing up around the cooperative and how those early lessons shaped what being a co-op member still means to him today.

Small change can make a big difference close to home. 💚

This summer, an Operation RoundUp grant helped the East Wake Optimist Club provide multiple meals for kids at the Boys & Girls Club in Zebulon.

Wake Electric employees and WECare board members joined in to help serve one of those meals — putting our cooperative principle of concern for community into action.
