coatings in oil based, aqueous, and UV chemistries that are used on the end of presses in most any printing method. We are unique in that we understand the interaction of all these chemistries on press. We take pride in our problem solving abilities and will be glad to work with you on your specific application. When Kustom was first founded, our customer’s biggest complaint was that we were too small and our batch sizes were smaller than our competitors. That was during the heyday of the printing ink industry. Today we have become ‘right sized’ for all of our customers. We can produce truckloads to one gallon pails. We manage our inventories, price our products and scale our operations to meet the needs of all our customers, large or small. We don’t have to learn how to handle this new mix of products; we have been doing it this way for more than 20 years

Product Spotlight 10/22/2020

Today’s Product Spotlight is on KS-7074 Film Food Packaging Gloss AQ Coating, and KS-7080 Paper Food Packaging Gloss AQ Coating.
Both are formulated with 21CFR 175.300 approved materials. Use KS-7074 on applications with anilox rollers to film and other non-porous substrates. Use KS-7080 on paper/paperboard stock for commercial or folding carton sheetfed work. These uniquely formulated coatings contain no VOC’s, exhibit low odor characteristics and considered low migration.

Other features of these exciting new aqueous coatings:

* Gloss values consistent with non-compliant water coatings
* Good rub and scuff resistance
* Low foaming
* Good for most hot foil stamping, imprinting and gluing applications(see TDS for more details)

Today's product Spotlight is on KB-1908 Gloss Varnish. KB-1908 is a 100% non-volatile gloss varnish. It has a medium tack range versus typical gloss varnishes which allows addition into inks with minimal effect on finished ink tack.

KS-903 BZP Free High Gloss Litho UV OPV

KS-903 is recommended for use as a UV overprint varnish where high performance, high gloss and fast cure response are desired. KS-903 is applied in-line over UV-curable litho ink on paper or folding carton substrates.

· Excellent cure response
· BZP (Benzophenone) Free
· Excellent litho properties
· Not considered imprintable, foil-stampable, glueable, etc.

LED-303 is a balanced extender system for LED curable flexo inks with photoinitiator already added. LED-303 exhibits excellent rheology, outstanding press performance, and fast cure. It can be used to make all types of LED flexo inks. Suitable for coated & uncoated papers, treated PE, PP, and various treated films.

This weeks Product Spotlight is on KB-215 Lithomaster Sheetfed Vehicle. KB-215 is specifically formulated to allow your inks to exhibit unique body and flow properties. Inks made with KB-215 will hold up to the heat and shear inks face on today’s high speed presses. This vehicle is a different approach in vehicle chemistry that deserves an in depth evaluation by quality-minded ink makers.

Very low dot gain.
Better transfer and color stability during long press runs.

ASTM International Technical Committee Meeting

The next ASTM International Technical Committee meeting for D01 Paint and Related Coatings, Materials, and Applications is scheduled for Feb 2-4, 2020 at that Atlanta Marriott Marquis in Atlanta, GA.
The Printing Inks and Ink Vehicles Sub-Committee will be meeting at 9AM on Feb 4, 2020 to review test methods related to the ink and ink vehicle industry as well as discuss test methods under development and propose new test methods for consideration.

Kustom Product of the week, KBW-PT300CV, is a PTFE compound which imparts excellent rub and slip properties to most paste inks. KBW-PT300CV is specifically formulated with raw materials compliant for Prop 65, Swiss and Nestle applications, such as food packaging in an indirect contact application.

Product of the week is KS-871 Chalkboard UV Coating. This specialty coating is formulated to imitate a chalkboard when properly applied and cured, allowing the user to easily write and erase with chalk. KS-871 is recommended for offset and flexo printing on paper, paperboard, and select other non-porous substrates.

Product of the week is KB-406 100% NVM Fast Setting SF Flushing Vehicle. This high solids vehicle provides exceptional gloss and transfer properties. KB-406 is optimal for nonporous substrates, promoting hard dry and adhesion.
