5th Annual Palettes of Waterford Sponsor Shoutout to Pennsylvania General Energy. This new sponsor is located in Warren, PA but appreciate the arts and in particular, our Palettes artist, Morgan Murphy. They may not be from Waterford but a visit to their page, showed a kindred spirit, invested in their town. In fact, part of their mantra says, "Giving back to the communities we serve."
Founded in 1978 by 4 Warren, PA businessmen, Pennsylvania General Energy started with a purchase of exploration acreage from Floyd Clinger, a well-known oil and natural gas pioneer in the Appalachian Basin. At the time, the partners knew very little about the oil and natural gas business, but were fortunate to be mentored by Mr. Clinger. This new venture led to the PGE of today, a proud and growing organization making positive contributions to the region’s economy and environment.
In the early days, they began buying wells and drilling 15 to 20 shallow wells a year to build up production and capital. As they gained confidence and capital, the company was able to embark on deep-well drilling. Relying on new technology, seismic testing and experienced personnel, they were able to successfully locate rich natural gas and oil reserves, many in areas that had been previously and extensively explored.
In 1988, they acquired 80,000 acres of oil, natural gas and mineral rights in New York and Pennsylvania, along with 6,000 acres of timberland and the equipment to manage it. This was followed by a second acquisition in 1995 of 1,200 producing oil wells and a smaller number of natural gas wells. The agreement to purchase included PGE’s commitment to bring all of the wells into compliance with state environmental regulations.
Today, PGE is a leading, privately owned, independent oil and natural gas exploration and production company in the Appalachian Basin. By relying on the right people, advanced technology and a personal business approach, the business partners who came together in 1978
