We fuel cars, trucks, airplanes, and farm and construction equipment, as well as the homes and industries in one of America's largest concentrations of people and commerce.

United was founded in 1902 in the cradle of the world petroleum industry. From the start we have cherished a role of independence in an industry that has been dominated by the giants. For over 100 years we have remained a free and innovative force in the marketplace, helping to bring the benefits of healthy competition to the people of our region. United owns and operates a modern, fully equipped refinery. While primary emphasis is placed upon maximizing yields of motor gasoline and distillate fuels, the refinery produces a full range of petroleum products. In addition to unleaded gasoline, our products include kerosene, diesel fuel, Number 2 home heating oil, industrial fuels, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), propane, and several grades of asphalts. Through the years, United has continued to grow by expanding and optimizing the refinery and by acquisition and the building of new locations in our retail gasoline and convenience store business. Today we have over 375 retail outlets in Pennsylvania, Ohio and New York, which include service station/convenience stores, truck stops, restaurants, and garages. The locations are branded Kwik Fill, Red Apple Food Marts, and Country Fair. United Averages approximately 70,000 barrels per day of oil throughput at its facility. The refinery operates 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. United Refining Company employs over 4000 employees at our facilities. In addition to operating the retail system, United also has a trucking operation in Erie, Pennsylvania, terminal operations in Rochester, Tonawanda and West Seneca, New York, and Butler and Springdale, Pennsylvania. United owns an asphalt terminal in Cordova, Alabama and has an office in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Our refinery, located in northwestern Pennsylvania, produces a full complement of petroleum products. We produce various grades of asphalts, distillates, and gasoline. These products are marketed by our retail, wholesale, and asphalt marketing teams. With our diverse, modern refinery, and the combined efforts of our marketing teams, we are positioned to be Tomorrow’s Energy Provider.


United Refining Company operates two Retail Marketing divisions under the Kwik Fill/Red Apple and Country Fair brands. To meet the diverse needs of our customers, we offer a variety of company owned full service, self service, and full-line convenience stores many with prepared food programs.

With nearly 300 Kwik Fill, and more than 70 Country Fair locations, United Refining Company maintains a commanding presence in the western New York, western Pennsylvania, and eastern Ohio markets. Our retail operations account for over 400 million gallons of gasoline sales per year.


The Wholesale Marketing Department offers United Refining Company’s gasoline and distillates to distributor, commercial, and government accounts.

United Refining Company also offers branding opportunities through its Wholesale Marketing Department for both the Keystone and Kwik Fill brands.

United Refining Company’s Asphalt Marketing Department sells asphalt via retail and wholesale channels to terminals, and the paving and roofing industries in the eastern United States. Methods of distribution include both railcar and transports.

In addition, we supply asphalt to our owned and leased terminals located in western Pennsylvania, western New York, and Alabama for resale to end users.

Our asphalt products include performance graded paving asphalts and roofing asphalts.
