To our Valued Customers:
❄️ Extreme Cold & Heavy Snow Incoming – Protect Your Heating System ❄️
With below-zero temperatures and heavy snowfall in the forecast, now is the time to make sure your heating system is ready to keep your home safe and comfortable.
Here’s what we recommend:
🔥 Keep your thermostat set consistently
Avoid shutting the system off, even if you’re away. Setbacks that are too large can cause your system to struggle or pipes to freeze.
🌬️ Replace or clean your air filter
A dirty filter restricts airflow, reduces efficiency, and can cause overheating or system shutdowns—especially during extreme cold.
🚪 Check all supply and return vents
Make sure vents aren’t blocked by furniture, rugs, or curtains. Restricted airflow puts extra strain on your furnace or heat pump.
❄️ Clear snow and ice from outdoor equipment
Keep heat pump units, flue pipes, and intake/exhaust vents clear. Snow or ice blockages can shut systems down or create unsafe conditions.
🧊 Seal drafts and protect exposed areas
Close gaps around doors and windows, and open cabinet doors under sinks on exterior walls to allow warm air to circulate around plumbing.
🛠️ Pay attention to warning signs
Unusual noises, frequent cycling, cold spots, or higher-than-normal runtimes are signs your system may need service.
🔋 Prepare for power interruptions
If you lose power, avoid repeatedly adjusting the thermostat. Once power returns, allow your system time to safely restart and recover.
Cold snaps push heating systems to their limits. A little preparation now can help prevent breakdowns when you need heat the most.
