This past month has been a busy one to say the least! Early this past Sunday morning we got back from working on a job outside of Chicago. Last fall we took this one down, documented all bad logs, then completely rebuilt it this spring. This cabin was a really neat one to rebuild. The views we had along this beautiful lake of swans, geese, and other wildlife were hard to beat. Believe it or not, as the story goes, in the 1930’s this cabin was moved to its modern location from a farm across the lake. The movers waited for winter and with a hard freeze they drug it across the thick ice with a team of horses and skids. This cabin is the first cabin we’ve ever worked on that had logs going up the entire gable ends, a feature we very rarely ever see in Missouri, but is more common in northern Illinois and Wisconsin. Soon we will be back up to re-chink it and make it look a little more finished.

The other project we posted pictures of was a cabin we took down a few weeks ago in Bowling Green, Mo. Originally this cabin was probably used as a crib barn for corn or grain. This cabin too was moved to its present location in downtown Bowling Green around 30 years ago. It was used as a shed cabin by our client to sell antiques out of. The client is no longer selling antiques out of the cabin, so she wants to preserve it by moving it back to where it came from, which just so happens to be her family farm. Our client is so excited to have one of the original log structures going back to the family farm, where it can be fully restored and appreciated for many more generations to come. Stay tuned for progress on both projects…..

O and btw we have about eight more cabins on the books to rebuild this year alone, so keep watching us and following us to see these historic structures live on. God bless 🙏

Check out this neat early cabin we acquired. Even with the rain this afternoon we were able to get the outside stripped. The cabin appears to be in good shape and I would say built pre-civil war circa 1850’s. Please reach out to us soon if you would want this beauty rebuilt and restored on your property, it won’t last long. 636-675-4073.

Last week we got the cabin in St.Elizabeth all taken down and hauled out. I had a great time working on this old place, knowing it will be saved from the fire or termites. While in the middle of tearing it down, I discovered that the floor joists holding the upstairs floor were beautifully hewn, which is not a feature I see in late 1800s cabins. Another neat feature was that the top logs on the gables had upside down half dovetailed notches to hold on the top plate log, which is a feature I have never seen before. So while all these cabins are very similar, each one still seems to be uniquely different in many little ways. Also one day while I was working on the cabin an old man that owns the neighboring farm stopped by. He told me about a few other early log homes that had been taken down in the area over the years and then he told me he had something to show me that I would think was very cool! I was reluctant to stop working to take a look at whatever he thought was very cool, but I thought “ what the heck ” I might as well go see what he thinks is so cool, after all, he said, it would only be 15 or 20 minutes of my time. So we went over there, and to my surprise, I was amazed at what I saw. It was a beautiful cave on his property that is called an arched cave. I put a lot of pictures on here, but the pictures do not do justice on how neat and how big it truly is. He told me several neat old stories about how earlier generations used the cave and even a crazy story about an archaeologist in the 1950’s that dug up some bodies that dated close to 2000 years old. My buddy Joe with route66 Reclaim Lumber helped me load the truck and he about had a heart attack driving across one of the last swinging bridges in Missouri. 😂 overall I had a great time and can’t thank the good Lord enough for the work he has blessed me with. Also blessed at all the experiences I get to have doing this job and the new people I get to meet. I even met up with some great previous clients that live in town and got to eat a great dinner. once again God is good all the time. 🙏

Not too long ago our clients in Tennessee shared several photos with us showing the progress on their log home. A few years ago, they actually purchased two different log cabins from us. One I had to completely rebuild on my lot and turn into a story and a half. The other cabin they bought became a one story cabin that they attached to the rear of the bigger cabin for a bedroom. It is absolutely beautiful and stunning what they have done! I can’t wait to see it when it’s done! Check out the last few photos to see how bad of shape these cabins were in, abandoned, and neglected for decades. Thank God, I was able to rescue them and thank God for these wonderful clients to invest and see the potential. what most would see as an old structure in need of tearing down and burned, in the right hands, they will be transformed into beautiful legacy homes that will last for many generations to come.

Our clients up in Iowa have been doing an amazing job on finishing out their cabin. We built this cabin last summer for them and they have been working hard ever since to get it completed. Hopefully I will get a free stay in it if I’m ever in the area. Lol . Really really nice! Excited to see the finished project. 👏

Even though it’s a nasty day, remember spring is right around the corner! Today I wanted to show you the progress on my brothers log house! Some people think you can’t take a dilapidated old Log barn down and turn it into a beautiful custom home. Well, this proves them wrong! Building these kinds of homes takes unbelievable time and patience. Once they’re completed though, you have a house with true character that you feel connected to because of their uniqueness. Not only is it a new beautiful/historic home, but it is a one of a kind! There is not one other that is the same. If you want to build and live in a truly unique beautiful historic custom house, different then everyone else’s grey plastic house, then reach out to us. We would love to help turn your dream into a reality. God bless 🙏
