Solar Flares 2017 Solar Flares 2017 is a non-profit organization. Our goal is to inform its viewers of the ongoin

Unlike other "Solar Flare" websites, Solar Flares 2013 gives factual data with comprehensive day to day changes in space weather and our Sun's activity from its deep core to the outer corona without the whole "end of the world" talk.

SUBSIDING STORMS: Geomagnetic activity is subsiding as Earth exits the wake of a CME that struck our planet two days ago--but not before sparking a bright display of auroras on Oct. 13-14. Mia Stålnacke sends this picture from Kiruna, Sweden:

October 12th SF16
Space Weather update :

EARTH-DIRECTED CME: A magnetic filament in the sun's northern hemisphere erupted on Oct. 8th, hurling a faint CME into space. NOAA analysts say the storm cloud could deliver a glancing blow to Earth's magnetic field on Oct. 13th. At this time of year, even a minor CME impact can spark bright polar auroras.

SURFING THE HELIOSPHERIC CURRENT SHEET: On Oct. 10th, Earth passed through a fold in the heliospheric current sheet. The crossing sparked bright auroras around the Arctic Circle. "The lights were fantastic," reports Helge Mortensen, who photographed the display over Kattfjordvannet, Norway:
