Interstate Natural Gas Association of America

Interstate Natural Gas Association of America Its members transport over 95 percent of the nation's natural gas through a network of 200,000 miles of pipelines. Learn more at http://www.ingaa.org/energylink

The Interstate Natural Gas Association of America (INGAA) is a trade organization that advocates regulatory and legislative positions of importance to the natural gas pipeline industry in North America. INGAA represents virtually all of the interstate natural gas transmission pipeline companies operating in the U.S., as well as comparable companies in Canada and Mexico. The interstate natural gas

pipeline industry has two principal federal regulators: the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) is responsible for the economic regulation of pipelines, while the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Office of Pipeline Safety oversees the industry's safety efforts.

INGAA thanks the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources for their work to advance David Rosner, Lindsay See, and Judy Chang as nominees to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and we look forward to the Senate's final vote to be carried out next week.

As INGAA president and CEO Amy Andryszak said this spring: "[W]e need a FERC that works — a FERC with enough commissioners to make lasting decisions. If the United States is to realize the benefits of its abundant energy supplies, the country needs a quorum of FERC commissioners who are committed to evaluating projects on their merits — in accordance with federal law and established Commission precedent — and to the timely deployment of critical energy projects." Read more:

If FERC loses its quorum, vital natural gas projects may be delayed, stalling economic growth and hindering U.S. producers’ ability to meet energy demands.

In response to the announcement that the Biden administration will place an indefinite pause on permits for new LNG export terminals, INGAA President & CEO Amy Andryszak called the decision "misguided and potentially detrimental."

“The administration needs to appreciate that even a “pause” on approvals can potentially cause devasting ripple effects on national security, energy investments, the supply chain, and American workers and consumers. INGAA urges the President and those within his administration to reconsider this decision and resume timely reviews of LNG terminals, and stands ready to work with lawmakers and energy producers to ensure that natural gas can be delivered from production basins to end use consumers.”

The US has sufficient natural gas supply to meet growing demand both at home and abroad without steep price increases, but only if we can build new infrastructure. A recent study conducted by the National Economic Research Associates (NERA) shows that increasing supply will reduce domestic prices while allowing us to continue to meet the demands of our allies and trading partners around the world. However, the lack of new pipeline infrastructure in the U.S. makes it impossible to bring these resources to market.
