“When we coordinate our existing actions, we make progress better and faster.”
wrote SCI’s executive director, Julie Greene, at the 6th SCI World Conference in India now well underway. “We can’t address complex problems as widely and as quickly as we need to working as individuals. But as part of a global solar cooking movement, collaborating at the systems level, we can work together to make real change happen – in our lifetimes. The world needs us and this work more than ever.”
Innovating and sharing best practices is critical to progress. “Each of us carries a thread of the solar cooking work we do. When we share, plan, and commit to work together, we weave our individual threads into a strong rope.”
Conference attendees know that change is happening faster than at any other time in human history. Things are getting better and worse, faster and faster, every day. SCI is determined to catalyze positive strides to help empower women and to save the environment.
“I wish you could be here. The energy is incredible,” Julie said. “I met a woman from Chiapas who has exactly the kind of passion, vision, and technical expertise to be a solar cooking leader in her community and her state.” This woman is meeting experts, including one from the neighboring state of Oaxaca. “Ironically, they had to travel halfway around the world—to India—to meet!” Julie said.
