Imagine showing up for a 10-hour shift and earning $1.75 a day.

That's what life looked like at the Wilson Quarry when Graniterock was founded in 1900!

With only sledgehammers, picks and shovels, crews produced about 175 tons of rock each day, laying the foundation for what would become one of California's oldest and most respected construction materials companies.

Today, the A.R. Wilson Quarry remains a major employer and an important part of the Central Coast, supporting more than 100 positions and continuing a legacy that spans more than 125 years.

That's the kind of pride driving our work on the SURF! Busway and Bus Rapid Transit Project, a major transportation improvement that will help connect Marina, Seaside and Sand City with dedicated transit infrastructure, roadway upgrades and expanded trail access.

For our team members, this project is about more than moving dirt, placing concrete or building infrastructure. It is about building something that will serve our neighbors, friends and families for decades to come.

Through close collaboration between construction teams, designers and Monterey-Salinas Transit, we have found ways to improve safety, increase efficiency and deliver long-term value for the communities this project will serve.

As construction continues, we're proud to be helping shape a project that will improve mobility throughout the Monterey Peninsula and leave a lasting impact on the communities we call home!

What a great day at the quarry! 🏃⛰️

This weekend, more than 300 runners joined us for the 2026 Rock & Run, making their way through the Wilson Quarry for a one-of-a-kind race experience. Thanks to the incredible support of participants, volunteers, sponsors and community members, this year's event raised $40,000 for Aromas School and San Juan Elementary School!

From first-time runners to longtime Rock & Run regulars, it was great to see so many people come together for a morning of fun and community support.

Thank you to everyone who laced up their shoes, cheered from the sidelines, volunteered their time or helped make the event possible.

The Rock & Run + Permit Amendment Open House is almost here!

Join us this Sunday, October 11 for one of our favorite traditions, the Rock & Run at the Wilson Quarry. It's not every day you get the chance to run or walk through a working quarry, all while supporting local schools and enjoying a fun morning with the community.

This year we'll also be hosting our Permit Amendment Project Open House, so if you've ever wanted to learn more about the quarry and what's ahead, this is a great opportunity to stop by and chat with the team!

That's a wrap on the 2026 Santa Cruz and San Benito County Fairs!

One of the highlights for our team was cheering on the next generation of agricultural leaders at the Junior Livestock Auctions. Between the two fairs, Graniterock purchased 2 animals and provided 16 add-ons to local participants to recognize all the work they have put in.

We're proud to support the hardworking 4-H and FFA students who spend countless hours raising and caring for their animals. The dedication and pride on display each year is truly inspiring, and we're grateful to be part of a community that invests in these young exhibitors and their futures.

Thanks to everyone who helped make this year's auctions another great success!

A smoother ride for one of San Benito County's busiest corridors.

Earlier this year, Graniterock crews completed the Union Road Rehabilitation Project, improving roughly two miles of Union Road between Highway 156 and Riverside Road.

The project included roadway rehabilitation and underground work to improve long-term durability, safety and reliability for the thousands of drivers who rely on this route daily.

Projects like this are a great example of the work we do across the Central Coast, partnering with local agencies to maintain the infrastructure that keeps communities connected.

From Union Road to major highways, bridges, airports and beyond, we're proud to help build and maintain the transportation network our region relies on!

Long before sustainability became a common industry conversation, Graniterock was finding ways to reduce energy use, conserve resources and make our operations more efficient.

From net-zero energy improvements at our Watsonville headquarters and solar power generation at the Wilson Quarry to incorporating reclaimed asphalt pavement and lower-cement concrete mixes, these efforts helped lay the foundation for the work we continue to build upon to this day.

The tools and technologies have evolved over the years, but the goal remains the same: delivering the materials our communities depend on while continually looking for ways to reduce our environmental impact.
