We have another chance to see the northern lights again tonight (Wed 11/12/25). In the Deep South, you’ll want to use a camera to see them. Those in the northern US can see them with the naked eye. Here is how the colors are created. When the sun’s charged particles collide with oxygen and nitrogen in our atmosphere, the reaction creates a color - and how high up in the atmosphere these collisions happen matter as well.

Yes, the cost of living is high. No doubt about that.

But let’s be honest about the other side of the story:

• $3,500 mortgage
• $1,400 in car payments
• $2,500 for childcare
• $1,000 in student loans
• $1,000 on credit cards

Some of this is unavoidable — life is expensive.
But a lot of it comes from lifestyle choices that felt “normal.”

A brand new SUV instead of a reliable used car.
Two car notes instead of one paid-off ride.
Upgrading square footage instead of building savings.
Swiping credit cards to maintain an image instead of adjusting spending.
Both spouses working full-time while childcare costs more than one spouse’s entire paycheck.

And it’s not about shame — it’s about awareness.
Because comfort now often costs freedom later.

The truth is… most people aren’t lazy or irresponsible.
They’re just following the blueprint society handed them —
“upgrade,” “reward yourself,” “you deserve it.”

Meanwhile, debt quietly steals your options.
Inflation eats your savings.
And the dream of freedom drifts further away.

But the moment you see it — really see it —
you can choose differently.
You can downshift, simplify, live below your means, and rebuild margin.

Because financial peace isn’t about perfection.
It’s about taking back control — one choice at a time.

We have been getting a few calls over the past couple days from concerned owners of heat pump systems. We wanted to give you some pointers to alleviate some concerns and save you the cost of a service call...
When operating properly, Heat pumps will grow a layer of ice on the outside unit. (Especially in low temperatures)This layer of ice could grow up to an inch thick. If your system is working properly, it will then go into a defrost cycle every 60-90 minutes which will remove that ice.
When your heat pump goes into defrost, it will make a loud "whooshing" sound and will most likely begin to steam. The outdoor fan motor should stop turning while in defrost mode. It may sound like the unit is laboring . This is all normal. After several minutes of being in defrost, the ice should thaw out. When it is really cold (below 32 degrees) some of the ice may remain even after the defrost cycle. This is ok.
The main thing to worry about is if your home is staying warm. If it is, then your system is working properly. Even if it does look like an igloo.
If your heat pump is not keeping your home warm, there is a back up feature that you can use. It is called "emergency heat".
If you look on your thermostat settings, where you change it from heat to cool, you will find an emergency heat setting. By choosing this option, it will turn off your outside unit and use the electric heat strips that are installed in your air handler.
As long as the proper size heat strips were installed when your system was put in & are working, emergency heat will keep you from freezing.
I hope this helps. As always, if you do need us, we will gladly come out.
