Deep drawn metal stampings show up in more places than most people realize.

Reshoring isn't a trend. It's a correction.

After the pandemic, something changed. Supply chains that stretched across oceans became less reliable. Eight-week lead times turned into eight months. Companies that moved stamping work overseas started looking for domestic partners again.

We've seen it firsthand.

Customers are bringing work back from Asia to a 25-person shop in Wauconda, Illinois because they need parts when they say they need them. They need consistent quality, dependable communication, and a supplier that answers the phone when there's a problem to solve.

Every job that runs through our plant starts with a print.

The engineering drawing arrives with the dimensions, tolerances, material specifications, and finish requirements. From there, every department has a role.

Our tool room and designers evaluate it. Our estimators quote it. Our toolmakers build the tooling. Our setup technicians dial in the press. Operators verify parts against the print, and our quality team approves first articles before production moves forward.

The process is the same whether we're making 500 parts or 5,000,000.

Every job is different, but every job follows the same disciplined process. Consistency is what allows us to take on a wide range of work while maintaining the standards our customers expect.

What does that mean in practice at Domeny?

It means our processes are documented and controlled. Inspection records are maintained. Nonconformances are tracked and corrected. Customer-specific requirements are managed with full traceability.

For customers in the automotive, medical, aerospace, and industrial markets, ISO certification is often a requirement for supplier qualification.

For us, it's also simply how we operate.

In 2002, Domeny partnered with Atlas Casters to develop something that hadn’t been done before: stainless steel industrial casters formed from a single drawn blank.

Traditional casters use stamped low-carbon steel: functional but susceptible to corrosion, heavier for the load capacity, and unsuitable for cleanroom environments.

Stainless steel casters are different. Lighter. Stronger. Fully corrosion-resistant. Built for semiconductor fabrication, pharmaceutical cleanrooms, biotech, and medical manufacturing environments.

The engineering challenge was getting stainless to form into that shape without cracking. We figured it out.

Our competitors have called them “the Cadillac of casters.” These are the only passive shock absorbing casters in the world. Manufacturing overseas has tried to replicate the tooling. They can’t.

Twenty-plus years later, that partnership is still running. Still making parts nobody else can make.

A single-operation die does one thing: punches, bends, or forms in one press stroke. To make a complex part, you’d need multiple operations, multiple setups, multiple presses, multiple chances for dimensional variation to accumulate.

A progressive die does all of it in one tool. The strip of metal feeds through a mechanical press sequentially: pierced here, drawn there, trimmed, formed, finished, and a completed part drops out with every stroke.

The difference in throughput: a well-designed progressive die can produce over 90 parts per minute. Multi-op production might manage 10–15 per minute with changeover.

We build progressive dies with 20 separate operations in a single tool. A single progressive die can represent well over $100,000 in engineering and tooling, designed to produce millions of precision parts over decades.

Progressive stamping is automation before there was automation.

For volume production of complex stampings, progressive tooling isn’t just faster. It’s categorically different.

Last summer we built out a dedicated grinding room.

New walls. Epoxy floor. Purpose-built lighting. And most importantly, the Okamoto 1632ST surface grinder finally got a real home instead of being tucked into a corner of the main toolroom.

Why does this matter?

Precision grinding is where die components land on their final numbers. We’re talking tenths. A few ten-thousandths of an inch is the difference between a die that runs clean and one that scuffs parts, drags, or chips.

Investing in the environment is investing in the accuracy.

And a quick note on ingenuity, our maintenance team designed and built a custom exhaust system for this room themselves. No contractors. They engineered it, built the ducting, and installed the system start to finish. That kind of problem‑solving doesn’t come from a manual. It comes from ownership.

We’re not a company that waits for machines to break.
We build rooms for them.

Cold rolled steel is easy to form. Aluminum is easier still. Stainless steel fights back.

Stainless has higher yield strength, less ductility, and it work‑hardens rapidly as it’s formed. That means more force at each draw stage. Less predictable springback. Tighter margins in the tooling.

So why do we specialize in it? Because the difficulty keeps the field small.

When stainless components are specified for corrosion resistance, cleanroom compatibility, or high‑strength applications—automotive, medical, aerospace, semiconductor, or industrial, the list of qualified suppliers narrows fast.

We’re in that narrow field.
