One of the biggest challenges in improving building performance is reducing energy consumption. HVAC systems can account for 40% to 50% of a commercial building's total energy use, making them a key area of focus. โก๏ธ๐ข
To address this challenge, ASHRAE Standard 90.1 includes Section 6, which focuses on HVAC system efficiency. The section outlines requirements designed to help buildings balance indoor air quality (IAQ) and energy performance. Among those requirements is exhaust-air energy recovery, which can be achieved using energy recovery ventilators (ERVs). By recovering energy that would otherwise be exhausted from the building, ERVs can help reduce the energy required to condition outdoor air while supporting compliance with ASHRAE 90.1.
