Thin-walled parts present unique challenges regardless of size. Factors such as material type, length, diameter, tolerance, and surface finish are all critical. Pictured are some 6061-T651 aluminum rings we manufacture for a biotechnology customer.

The challenges associated with these parts include:
- Critical surface finish on the inner diameter
- A total tolerance of .0015"
- Clear anodizing after machining, which necessitates a reliable plating vendor to ensure parts return within specifications and without scuffs or scratches.

At Crosby Machine Company, we utilize proven methods for machining parts like these and maintain confidence in our external service vendors to deliver the quality processes our customers expect. If you require any outsourced services, we welcome the opportunity to provide a quote.

At Crosby Machine Company, we take pride in manufacturing complex components, such as this housing for a linear slide bearing designed by our biotech customer.

Key details include:
- Material: 6061 aluminum
- Tolerances: Slots are machined to +/-.001" for width, height, depth, and span across the opening.
- Post-machining: Parts are sent to a qualified vendor for hard anodizing, ensuring that tolerances are maintained.

Precision is crucial; during machining, we must hold exact sizes and tolerances to ensure that the components meet specifications after anodizing. Partnering with a plating vendor capable of controlling their process is essential for achieving the required sizing.

With orders ranging from 150 to 300 pieces, process optimization is vital for maintaining quality. Each component undergoes 100% inspection both during machining and after plating.

If you have any outsourcing needs, we welcome the opportunity to provide a quote.

At Crosby Machine Company, our advanced CNC machinery allows us to handle a variety of projects beyond standard production work. Recently, we machined a single aluminum bracket for a customer. Although we typically prefer to produce several hundred units, we are committed to delivering quality results, no matter the quantity.

We currently have open machine time available and welcome any inquiries for outsourcing needs. We look forward to the opportunity to provide a quote.

A "Large Vial Extractor" we supply for our biotechnology customer. All components are manufactured and assembled in-house at Crosby Machine Company. The completed assembly is then packaged and shipped to our customer where it is ready right out of the box for immediate delivery to their customers. This "value added process" we provide saves our customer valuable time and money. The time savings for the purchaser is realized by submitting only a single purchase order for the completed assembly. We handle all the tedious paperwork work needed for machining the individual components, and sourcing any and all outside services such as clear and color anodize, and customer logo silk screening.
The cost savings to the customer comes from allowing us to machine all the components at once giving us the opportunity to acquire materials for all on a single purchase order to get the best material cost. Then once machined and ready for anodizing, again, we can group the varied components together as "one lot" for anodizing. This helps to control cost by avoiding minimum lot charges from the plating vendors and with just a single lead time for the parts it makes it a win-win for both us and more importantly, our customer.

These are a handle we manufacture for some "Clamp Lid" assemblies which in the last photo you will see include the Orange anodize. They are before and after photos of the component in one of our high-speed vertical machining centers, followed by a picture of the completed assembly of which all components pictured are made in-house. The assembly photo is shown with an older version of the orange handle which if you look closely had square ends on the three tangs. It was determined to provide too much torque when the lab technicians were tightening the clamp lid onto the instrument, so these pictured handles being machined have a shorter tang to reduce the torque and a rounded end to provide comfort.
