Reconnecting a Community — Sellers Avenue Bridge Reopens!

On October 15, Road-Con joined PennDOT, project partners, local officials, and the Ridley Park community to celebrate the reopening of the Sellers Avenue Bridge in Delaware County.

Construction began in August 2023, and replacing this bridge over active railroad tracks came with no shortage of challenges. From coordinating with Amtrak and SEPTA to working around energized overhead transmission lines, railroad catenary, and numerous utilities requiring relocation, this project demanded extensive planning, coordination, and teamwork.

Throughout construction, maintaining pedestrian access was a priority. A temporary pedestrian bridge and carefully planned walkways allowed residents to continue crossing between the neighborhoods and businesses on either side of the railroad.

Seeing the community come together for the ribbon cutting was a great reminder of why these projects matter. This bridge is more than a roadway crossing. It’s an important connection between neighborhoods, local businesses, and the heart of Ridley Park.

A big thank you to our Road-Con crews, PennDOT, Gannett Fleming, Amtrak, SEPTA, and everyone involved in bringing this project to this milestone.

As the saying goes, a photo is worth 1,000 words.

What you can see here is an incredibly clean, AMAZINGLY polished, well-maintained, best-in-class heavy-haul tractor-trailer and rollback truck.

Now, what you can’t see are the weeks of long days and late nights. The 70+ hour workweeks and the sweat that goes along with it all. Instead of being home resting after a long day, knowing another long day is coming tomorrow, he still stays to get the trucks ready.

So why do all of this? All for a few trophies? Not quite. It’s something much deeper than the trophies, the recognition, and the shining metal. It’s the care. It’s going above and beyond anything we could imagine. It’s the creativity to see what others don’t see. It’s the pride in everything, down to the smallest detail.

CJ is the definition of an outstanding employee. Road-Con does not move without CJ, and we cannot thank him enough for all the long hours and late nights he puts in, not only when preparing for a show, but through the dedication he brings to work every single day!

🚧 Progress is taking shape on Davis Grove Road in Montgomery County!

Road-Con is moving forward with the full removal and replacement of the existing bridge over an unnamed tributary to Park Creek.

With the old structure removed and the new concrete substructure taking shape, our field team is now installing the falsework and forming system for the new top slab.

The reinforced concrete top slab will serve a dual purpose—providing the structural deck while also becoming the finished roadway across the creek.
Every phase brings us one step closer to delivering a safe, durable connection for the community. 💪

The Material Transfer Vehicle (MTV) is an important piece of equipment because it helps to deliver the quality of asphalt paving Road-Con demands. The MTV transfers asphalt from the dump trucks in the back to the paver hopper in the front. It allows for continuous paving, reduced waiting time for the trucks, and well mixed, high-quality asphalt. Our team makes things happen because they have an advanced fleet to get the job done.

Over the years, we've figured out some interesting techniques to get the work done. The bucket dragging method helps to fill the void and level out the asphalt where the new patch meets the existing road surface. This came in handy over the summer on Columbus Boulevard.

The dynamic duo including Road-Con and Donegal Construction Corporation is working side by side on milling Route 30 in Exton, Pa. We have two incredible teams coming together under the big lights to prep the road for an incredible new highway surface. It doesn't get much better.

Road-Con crews are putting the finishing touches on the Sellers Avenue Bridge in Ridley Park with some grading and paving on the south side of the structure.

In addition to the new and improved bridge, we did some improvements to the approach roads including drainage system upgrades; full-depth pavement reconstruction; hardscaping; landscaping; and installing ADA curb ramps, sidewalks, and new traffic signals.

We appreciate everyone's patience during the construction process. Our goal is always to minimize disruption during construction. In this case, we built a temporary pedestrian/utility bridge to maintain access over the Amtrak line and kept SEPTA's Ridley Park Station open during construction.

This project is a prime example of how infrastructure done right brings value to the community. We took an unsafe bridge and replaced it with a safer, more attractive structure, and improved the surrounding area in the process. Road-Con has been proud to play a role in making Ridley Park a better place to live.
