How Can Epoxy Coatings be Installed Outside?❄️🌧️☀️

The Answer: Elastomeric Epoxy!

Using an elastomeric primer or epoxy creates a highly durable, flexible, waterproof system that moves with the concrete, preventing cracks, peeling, and moisture intrusion, perfect for outdoor areas with extreme temperature swings by providing deep pe*******on for adhesion, sealing the concrete, and then allowing the flexible topcoat to bridge substrate movement. This combo tackles the common issue of rigid epoxy failing outdoors due to concrete expansion/contraction

Elastomeric epoxy works by combining epoxy resins with rubber-like elastomers, silicones, or polysulfides, creating a hybrid membrane material that stretches and contracts with building surfaces. It bonds as a liquid and cures into a durable, seamless layer that can elongate significantly (300-800%), unlike rigid traditional paints or epoxies.

A cove base is a trim piece that transitions between the floor and wall, hiding seams and providing a clean edge. A traditional cove base is installed after flooring and may leave small gaps where water and bacteria 🦠 can collect.

An integral cove base, however, is built directly into the flooring system, forming a seamless, curved, and watertight transition from floor to wall. Its smooth radius eliminates sharp corners, making it easier to clean 🫧 and more sanitary—ideal for areas requiring frequent washdowns or strict hygiene.

Preformed Coves 🆚 Integral Coves

Preformed cove bases are pre-molded and glued in place, but they are not seamless and often don’t adhere well to uneven walls. They require cutting, caulking, and maintenance, which can offset any installation savings.

In contrast, a troweled resinous integral cove is built directly into the flooring, creating a stronger, more hygienic, and truly seamless finish.
