Let's be honest about what's actually happening here.
Governor Lamont is posting about Eversource like he just found out your electric bill exists. Connecticut has had some of the highest electricity rates in the entire country for years. Not months. Years. His entire tenure.
Here's the part nobody is saying out loud: PURA, the board that decides whether Eversource gets their rate increase, is an executive branch agency. The Governor appoints the commissioners. He doesn't get to act like a concerned bystander watching this from the sidelines. He has direct influence over the outcome and has for six years.
So when he says he 'trusts PURA to make the right call,' understand what that actually means. He is publicly pressuring a board he controls to deny a rate hike, in an election year, after rates have climbed consistently on his watch. That is not advocacy. That is optics.
Even if PURA denies this specific request, Eversource will be back. They always come back. The structure of how utilities operate in Connecticut guarantees it. They pass infrastructure costs directly to ratepayers, collect a guaranteed profit margin on top, and their shareholders carry virtually zero risk. You carry it all.
Nobody in Hartford is going to fix your electric bill. They have had every opportunity to and haven't.
The only rate you can actually lock in is your own. That's what we do.
