“TPO? Isn't that for commercial buildings?” 👀

Not necessarily.

Take a look at this modern home in Orem, Utah.

EagleRidge Roofing & Construction recently installed a new TPO roofing system on its low-slope roof.

And this project gives us a perfect opportunity to clear up a common misconception.
Different roof designs can require different roofing approaches.

On traditional steeper residential roofs, you'll commonly see asphalt shingles.

But a low-slope roof doesn't manage water in exactly the same way as a steep roof.

That's why membrane roofing systems can be used in low-slope applications.

TPO, or thermoplastic polyolefin, is a single-ply roofing membrane. During installation, adjoining membrane seams can be heat-welded together, creating a continuous roofing surface.

So while you may recognize TPO from large commercial buildings, it can also have residential applications where the roof design calls for an appropriate low-slope system.

EagleRidge Roofing & Construction recently installed a double-bar snow retention system on a home and garage in Heber City, Utah.

On certain sloped roofs, accumulated snow can sometimes release and slide off in a large mass.

The black shingles will catch your eye. But look a little closer.

Another EagleRidge Roofing & Construction project is officially complete in Castle Dale, Utah.

For this home, we completed a new roof re-cover using Landmark Moiré Black shingles and black drip edge.

The combination creates a clean, coordinated finish along the roof, but the drip edge isn't simply there to match the shingles.

It has a job.

Drip edge is metal flashing installed along the edges of a roof. When properly incorporated into the roofing system, it helps direct water away from the fascia and other vulnerable roof-edge components and toward the gutter system where applicable.

It's a relatively small component compared with an entire roof full of shingles, but that's exactly why it's worth talking about.

A properly functioning roof is more than the material you can easily see from the street.

Shingles, flashing, drip edge, underlayment, ventilation and other components each have roles within the roofing system.

That's the part homeowners shouldn't overlook.

EagleRidge Roofing & Construction recently completed a project involving the removal of two rooftop swamp coolers and patching the openings left behind.

Why does the second part matter so much?

A rooftop swamp cooler requires an opening through the roofing system. Once that equipment is permanently removed, the former pe*******on needs to be properly closed and integrated back into the roof.

Otherwise, you've removed one problem while potentially leaving behind another vulnerable area.
