So inspiring .

I want to share a beautiful story that has unfolded this week. My two boys, 13 and 9, are at a baseball clinic for a few days this week. There is one middle-school aged boy that it has become apparent is not good at baseball. As hard as he tries, he cannot throw far, hit hard, or catch well at all. Meanwhile all the other boys his age are crushing it.

My heart has been so concerned for this boy. If you know anything about middle school boys, they love to tease. But what has happened is that I have seen compassion and kindness towards this boy time and time again. I saw one boy his age take time from the practice to show him how to hold a ball, how to place his glove, how to throw. And all with patience and kindness.

I had anxiety for this boy when they had outfield fly ball drills because I see all the boys around him making great plays and throwing across the field. What will happen when it’s his turn? He missed the fly ball, but threw it as hard as he could. When he came back to the group of boys, they all congratulated him and high five him for a good throw with all earnestness and sincerity. I am so impressed with these boys. Teenagers often get a bad rap these days, but these 20 or so 13 and 14 years old are shining examples that patience, compassion and empathy is alive and well. Great job boys! And what an incredible inspiration this one boy is who is showing up and playing his heart out even though he has some disadvantages, whatever they may be. I am so proud of him.
