Last summer, VSS International completed a multi-million-dollar pavement preservation project in Mount Rainier National Park, applying micro surfacing, crack sealing, and patch paving across more than 74 lane miles, campground loops, trails, and over 75 parking areas.

The objective was clear: “improve roadway conditions, maintain historic park features, and extend the service life of critical infrastructure… while minimally disturbing wildlife.”

More than 650,000 square yards of micro surfacing were placed, including over 475,000 square yards of Type III. Crews utilized specialized Macropaver equipment to navigate steep grades, tight roadways, and high-traffic locations such as Paradise, Narada Falls, and Reflection Lakes.

Recently, VSS International’s West Sacramento and Arizona teams came together for our annual Safety Stand Down, reinforcing the importance of staying focused and aware on every job site 👷‍♂️🚧

Crews, operators, and drivers reviewed common field risks like strains, trips, and caught between hazards, then moved into hands-on training covering fire extinguisher use 🔥, vehicle brake inspections 🚛, and fall protection 🦺. These are the real-world situations our teams face daily across pavement preservation, slurry seal, and roadway maintenance projects throughout the Western United States.

The focus was simple. Build habits that carry into the field, reduce risk, and keep everyone safe. We also recognized team members who lead by example through safe driving and strong situational awareness 👏 Congrats to all employees who received a safety award.

Safety goes beyond a stand down event. It shows up in every job, every crew, and every decision we make at VSS International.
