Happy Manufacturing Day from the floor at 333 River Street.

Since 1919, this is where the work has happened — not in an office, but at the spray booth, the lathe, and the laser cell, done by people who take pride in getting a surface exactly right. Every part that leaves here goes back into a paper machine, a turbine, an aircraft, or a plant somewhere that's counting on it to hold up.

Quick question for the maintenance folks: what's the biggest part you've ever had to ship out for repair?

A coating is only as good as the prep before it and the finish after it.

That's why we never send parts out for machining. Our machinists handle undercutting, surface prep, and superfinishing under the same roof as the spray booths — so the coating engineer who wrote the procedure is 50 feet from the person executing it. No subcontractor delays. No handoffs where the surface prep quietly goes wrong.

And when a job needs proof, our on-site metallurgy lab does the work: mount prep, photomicrography, hardness and tensile testing, all documented under AS9100D / ISO 9001:2015.

It started with wire cloth and paper mills.

In 1919, Charles E. Hayden founded Hayden Wire Works to supply wire cloth and field service to New England's paper machines. As the mills' needs changed, so did we — from wire to wear-resistant coatings, and eventually to the thermal spray, laser cladding, and machining shop that's run out of 333 River Street since the early 1980s.

Four generations later, the name on the door is still Hayden. And the habit we picked up in the paper mills — showing up at the customer's machine and solving the problem in front of us — is still how we work.

Behind every part that leaves our floor is a team of skilled technicians who have spent their careers getting it right, reading a surface, dialing in a process, and holding a tolerance that most people would never notice.
