5th Gen 4Runner Rear Bumper Project Update

The response to the initial bumper concept has been incredible. Thank you to everyone who took the time to comment, message, and provide feedback.

Based on community input and some new mounting ideas; several updates are already being incorporated into the design:

• Tire carrier shifted further toward the passenger side for improved rear visibility
• Optional non-swing-out version for those looking to save weight and keep things simple
• Tire carrier options in either aluminum or mild steel depending on your needs and budget
• Flip-down trail table integrated into the swing-out tire carrier
• Integrated recovery points
• High-clearance tube design focused on maximizing departure angle while minimizing unnecessary weight
• Pinch-plate upper mounting system — no frame access holes, no fishing nuts through frame rails, and no welded-in hardware. Simple, clean installation.

The goal from the beginning has been to create a bumper that is strong, functional, lightweight, and easy to install while maintaining the clean look of the 5th Gen platform.

Updated renders and prototype progress will be posted as development continues. The feedback has been extremely valuable and is helping shape this into a better product.

Stay tuned.

Made some more progress on the 5th gen 4runner rear bumper design this week. This model now includes a swing-out tire carrier along with integrated recovery points. Still refining a few details, but it’s starting to come together and take shape.

Looking forward to getting the first prototype built and seeing it in the real world.

Thinking about bringing this into production…

Been burning some late nights designing a minimalist, high-clearance rear bumper for the 5th Gen 4Runner.

The goal wasn’t to build another bulky plate bumper. I wanted something that’s lightweight, strong, tucked up tight to the body, and actually complements the lines of the truck while keeping maximum departure angle.

This is the finished concept as of right now.

If there’s enough interest, I’m planning to build the first prototype for this Saturday’s Toyota event and see where it goes from there.

I’d genuinely like to hear your thoughts. Would you run something like this? What would you change?

Off-road work has been a little slow lately, so we’ve been putting more time into the fabrication side of the shop.

Luca Off-Road & Fabrication has been building a full custom stainless exhaust system for a CAT 3406-powered commercial boat.

• 6” schedule 10 stainless
• TIG welded & back purged
• Stainless flex section
• Custom fl**ge work
• Built from scratch for the commercial marine environment

From off-road fabrication and suspension work to marine fabrication, railings, repair work, and custom one-off projects, we’re continuing to expand what the shop is capable of.

Appreciate everyone supporting the business and trusting us with their projects.

Just wrapped up a full 3D CAD layout for a custom stainless exhaust system going on a CAT 3406.

This setup is being built from the ground up using a mix of sourced stainless material and custom-fabricated components to fit the space properly and keep everything serviceable. Taking the time to model it out first lets me dial in routing, clearances, and overall fit before any material gets cut — especially important on tight engine room layouts like this.

Note: There will be a flex pipe installed directly off the turbo elbow to handle vibration and thermal expansion. I wasn’t able to import the flex pipe file into the model, but it’s accounted for in the design and will be integrated during fabrication.

Service bungs will also be added throughout the system for monitoring exhaust temperature and back pressure — making future diagnostics and performance checks straightforward.

This is the kind of work where planning makes all the difference — clean, functional, and built to last.

If you need custom exhaust work, stainless fabrication, or marine systems dialed in the right way, reach out.

🔧 Snapped Exhaust Fl**ge Bolt

Customer came in with a snapped exhaust fl**ge bolt—but luckily there was just enough of a nub left to work with.

Instead of rushing straight to drilling and risking damage, we:
✔️ Carefully worked the remaining stud out
✔️ Cleaned and chased the threads
✔️ Reinstalled with proper hardware

No broken extractors. No stripped threads. No unnecessary drilling.

Knowing when to slow down and use the right approach is what saves parts—and saves customers money.

If you’ve got broken bolts, seized hardware, or anything that needs a careful hand, that’s the kind of work we specialize in.
