Old Pipes. Expensive Problems.

🔧 Old cast iron pipes can last for decades, but over time they lose their structural integrity, develop cracks, and begin to affect the performance of the entire plumbing system. During this project, we replaced a damaged section of cast iron piping and performed a water quality assessment for the home.

💧 Testing revealed elevated water hardness levels. Hard water doesn’t just leave white mineral buildup on faucets, shower doors, and household appliances—it also requires more soap, shampoo, and cleaning products to achieve the same results.

Try this simple at-home test using two glasses of water.

Fill two identical clear glasses with tap water. Place one in a spot where it can sit undisturbed for 24 hours, and inspect the other right away so you can remember how the water looked initially. After 24 hours, take a close look at the glass that was left standing. Check for any sediment at the bottom, white residue on the sides of the glass, or cloudy water.

If you notice white buildup on the glass, sediment at the bottom, or the water has become cloudy, it may indicate elevated mineral content, hard water, or other impurities.

This test won’t provide a complete picture of your water quality, but it can be an early sign that it’s time to take a closer look at the water in your home.
