New Year - New Resolution. Is a daily devotional or reading through the Bible in the coming year on your resolution list? I have a resolution solution.
Would you like to read through the whole Bible in the coming year in a unique way? Using the Reese Chronological Bible, coupled with a dramatized version of the Bible, I melded the two together and created 365 daily devotional videos that are uploaded onto YouTube.
Your understanding of the Bible can greatly expand as you listen to and study Biblical events in their historical order. When Edward Reese created his chronological Bible, he analyzed every verse of the Bible and placed it in the order in which events occurred. In this version, John 1:1 is the very first verse.
Here are a few examples of why this process makes for a better understanding: There are events in the life of David that happen in First and Second Samuel, with additional details added in Chronicles and about 73 of the Psalms that David wrote. All were put in chronological order, so your understanding of David and how his Psalms intertwine with the events of his life. Reading them in order may help you better appreciate their meaning and tenor.
In this Chronological rendering of the Bible, the lives of the minor and major prophets are no longer compiled together at the end of the Old Testament but are knitted through the books of Samuel and the Chronicles. All the judgements of the prophets are mapped in order of their pronouncements to the different tribes and kingdoms. With the events and judgements told chronologically, the judgements and preceding actions of each group may be separated in your mind to help you understand the timeline and the need for God’s prophets to guide His people back to Him.
Reese also meticulously separates the events that happen in the Northern Kingdom from the events of the Southern Kingdom through a series of parallel passages tying together the major and minor prophets.
In the New Testament, the four gospels are harmonized chronologically. The life of Paul unfolds in Acts, from persecutor to church planter, and delineates how time and circumstances relate to the reason and content of his letters to each of the churches and pastors.
By the end of the year, you will have created a daily habit of reading, listening to, and understanding the Bible more clearly. It will help you solidify your growth in learning God’s word moving forward into the next year.
