What do you do when you need to hide bolts for an architectural project?

We were tasked with disassembling a railing set and rebuilding with solid brass instead of tubing. Some of the tubes had been damaged, and attempts were made at repairing, but it was time for a full restoration. The ornate cast piece this frame had to mount to were hand drilled and tapped at the turn of the century. The bolt spacing was close, but not exact. We decided to mill a slot for the bolt and washer to ride in to accommodate the variations. That made all the frame pieces we had to machine identical. After assembly, these brass caps were pressed in flush and then blended in by hand to create a monolith appearance. More to come on this project......

Does your CAM software allow you to utilize lollipop cutters?

To reduce the number of setups on this project, we were able to take advantage of a lollipop cutter to surface this drawer pull in one shot. Originally, the customer came to us with a handmade wooden sample. We duplicated it in CAD, had a prototype 3D printed to verify fitment, and after customer approval, produced them in copper. Deploying the 3D Contour toolpath in Fusion, we normalized and finished the drawer pull from the bottom up, 2 parts at a time in 2 operations. This is another example where we bolted into the backside of the part for fixturing to expose all sides without interference.

Lackluster work, but critical for lubrication!

A customer asked for a few grease fittings to be added reasonably quickly. Down and dirt set up to mill a flat and clamped a drill bar to the larger casting to drill through to the bore. The smaller parts just need a cross hole drilled and threaded, with a 90 degree grease fitting oriented so they could access it.

We should probably get caught up on some different things we have done this year. These were load cells for a truck scale. We measured the original ones that were rusted and corroded, had plates burned out, machined a few pieces, then had all that welded so the customer could install them. I'd put this up there as a neat job.

We crammed quite a bit of job shop work through the shop lately, so we took a breather to wrap up a personal project. Walnut floating shelf with glow in the dark hex pattern. Started out machining the hex pattern into a slab of walnut. We mixed and poured the resin then followed up by machining the top and perimeter, with an additional set up to knotch the back for the floating shelf bracket. A little bit of hand work to work in the and the shelf is now mounted in the entry of the shop.
