Yaskawa VFD Case Study — Biomass One, White City, Oregon

In 2008, Biomass One in White City awarded Power And Control the contract to supply two 600-horsepower Yaskawa America, Inc. VFDs, along with GE high-efficiency 3600 RPM motors and Federal Pacific isolation transformers.
The system has run 24/7, 365 days a year ever since, shutting down only for required maintenance. That puts us closing in on 175,000 operational hours at full current — in a dusty, dirty, and sometimes high-temperature environment.
Over the years, I've personally supplied VFDs from nearly every manufacturer in the industry. None compare to the quality or mean time between failures (MTBF) that Yaskawa delivers.

Did you know about the incredible Energy Trust of Oregon (ETO) rebates available for irrigation pump VFDs and industrial fan and pump VFD retrofits?

These rebates are available exclusively to Pacific Power and PG&E customers. As you'll see in the three charts below, the rebate amounts available for retrofitting a VFD into an application that currently uses a soft starter or across-the-line starter are substantial. In many cases, the rebate may cover the entire cost of the VFD and its installation. For applications up to 100 HP, the process is simple and requires only a straightforward application.

Power And Control, Inc. is an Energy Trust of Oregon Trade Ally, so we handle all of the paperwork and rebate processing for you. In addition, we are your local Yaskawa Drives distributor and hold Drive Specialist, Network Communications, and Repair Service certifications. That makes us your one-stop shop for VFD sales, startup, service, technical support, training, and ETO rebates.

Below are the incentive tables for standard projects from 1–100 HP. Projects over 100 HP are also eligible for rebates but must go through the Custom Application process.

There are also incentives available for new VFD installations, but the largest rebates are typically for existing/retrofit applications shown in the tables below.

After 30 years of building Power & Control here in Southern Oregon, I’ve decided to step back slightly from the day-to-day role as President and transition into the position of Founder & Executive Chairman.

Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of supporting industries throughout the region and beyond with drives, controls, automation, troubleshooting, programming, and technical support. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve built and deeply grateful for the customers, vendors, friends, and employees who helped make it possible.

I especially want to recognize some of the people who encouraged me early on to start Power & Control, Inc. Without their support and mentorship, I would not have had the success we’ve enjoyed over the last three decades. There are many more than I can name, but a few standout mentors include Michael Tibbits, William Doty, Marilyn Abbott, Don Barry, Ron Eversole (RIP), Bob Wagner, Mike Ross, Dan Webb, George Mosier, Michael Gatt, Dick Enloe (RIP), Jesse Warren, Jenne Ballard and all of the Enloe brothers. To all of others who played a role along the way — thank you!

As part of our long-term goals, Kyle will continue taking on an even larger leadership role as President of Power & Control, Inc. moving forward.

It is also important for people to know that Kyle is one of the most highly trained electrical sales engineers in America, if not the world. He holds a Drive Specialist certification, Network Communication certification and a AC drives repair/service certification, all are extremely rare in our industry. I honestly do not know of another company in the United States with this level of technical capability and experience under one roof.
