🌱 Help Me Show Students How BIG the Agriculture Industry Really Is! 🌱

This year in Intro to Agriculture, I’m starting something called Career Thursdays. My goal is to feature a different agriculture-related career each Thursday and help students discover jobs they may have never even heard of before.

And I need your help!

🎥 If you work in agriculture or in a career connected to agriculture, would you be willing to make a short “Day in the Life of…” video for my students?

You absolutely do not have to be local to Auburn — I would love to feature people from all over! I know I have friends, former students, colleagues, FFA connections, and ag industry friends working in all kinds of careers, and I’d love to bring those experiences into my classroom.

The video does NOT have to be fancy or professionally edited. A phone video showing pieces of your workday would be perfect!

Some things you could include:

🌾 What your job is and what you actually do
🎓 Education, training, certifications, or experience needed
🛤️ How you ended up in your career
❤️ Your favorite part of your job
😅 Something challenging or unexpected about it
💡 Advice for a high school student interested in the field
📍 What a typical day actually looks like

After we watch your video, I’d also love for my students to be able to send you a few follow-up questions. I think being able to interact with someone actually doing the job will make the career so much more real to them.

And when I say agriculture, I mean the WHOLE industry!

As I prepare for the upcoming school year, I have been taking inventory of the supplies and equipment already available in the Auburn Agriculture Department and comparing that with the hands-on lessons, labs, projects, and FFA activities planned for students this year.

I created an Amazon Wish List with items that would help support those plans, including materials for plant science, animal and veterinary science, agricultural mechanics, classroom activities, FFA events, and CDE practice.

This list is being shared for community members, alumni, local businesses, agriculture supporters, and anyone else who may be interested in helping our program grow. Donations are completely optional and never expected—every contribution is simply appreciated and will be put to good use by students.

As we prepare for the upcoming school year, Auburn Agriculture and FFA could use help collecting some everyday items for hands-on labs, plant science, recycling projects, food science, and other classroom activities.

Many of these are things community members, alumni, neighbors, and local businesses may already have and would otherwise recycle or discard—there is no need to purchase anything new.

Helpful items include:

🌱 Empty plastic bottles, milk jugs, egg cartons, crushed eggshells, coffee grounds, newspaper, sawdust, straw, and other compost materials

♻️ Soup cans, aluminum cans, cardboard boxes, clean jars with lids, plastic containers, and paper towel tubes

✂️ Fabric or leather scraps, rocks, tree rounds, untreated wood pieces, and other clean project materials

🥣 Extra mixing bowls, measuring cups and spoons, cutting boards, muffin pans, jars, and utensils

Donations are completely optional, but always appreciated. Please send only items that are clean, empty, and usable. If you have a large quantity or are unsure whether something would be helpful, please contact Mrs. VanMeter before bringing it to the school.
